Five Iconic Islands in the Maldives – The Jewels of the Indian Ocean!

Of the thousands of jewels that stud the Indian Ocean slightly southwest of India, less than two hundred are inhabited. If we were to turn back in time to the 1970s, one could almost call the collection of islands that form the Maldives, remote. Today, though well-developed, they remain pristine.

1

Haa Alifu

This is an atoll famous for water sports in addition to its beautiful powdery white sand. Once you arrive at Haal Alifu atoll's capital of Dhiddhoo and check in to one of the top resorts in Maldives, it is not just a glowing tan and luxurious living that you will enjoy. Life on this island is more vibrant than some of the others as the locals are known to be more active and adventurous than their counterparts on other islands. Many guests pen their first stories of the underwater world after they visit this northernmost island strand in the Maldives.

2

Vaadhoo

Some refer to Vaadhoo as the island with star-studded seas due to the presence of bioluminescence that is prevalent throughout the day but starts glowing only at night. Each time the ocean waves ripple through to the shoreline, a row of algae starts dancing not too far away from the coast. The guests of Vaadhoo tend to prefer fewer sea activities and spend more time relaxing on the beach. Vaadhoo is not far from the principal island of Maldives, therefore, there are plenty of boat services that operate to and from the island. It is a wise pick for those who want the full flavour of the Maldives in a hurry.

3

Ukulhas

Environmental conservationists and anyone worried about Mother Earth will be thrilled to visit Ukulhas, which is commonly referred to as one of the cleanest islands of Maldives. It owns this coveted title not only due to the general cleanliness but also due to having a well-thought-through waste management system. The island hosts events to educate people on the importance of the marine ecosystem and conducts planting programmes to ensure that its natural environment remains well-balanced.

4

Kuredu

The lagoons on this island steal the show from the ocean now and then but it would be unjust to say that the lagoons are the favourite. The spas that operate on the island garner respect and admiration from their patrons. The guests find these waters remarkably clear and teeming with aquatic creatures. Honeymooners will be excited to know that the island is famous for romantic expeditions. This island is best visited during the early months of the year when the sea waves are less choppy.

5

Hudhuranfushi

Those who visit and stay over at Hudhuranfushi island speak highly of their experience in the sea, on the beach, at hotels such as Adaaran Select Hudhuranfushi, in restaurants and cafes and even on the streets thanks to the hospitality and warmth of the local people. The island is petite in size but massive in what it has to offer, hence, the glowing remarks received come as no surprise.
