Here is a summary of this wonderful Rhodopsin pigment. Light-sensitive receptor protein that plays a role in visual phototransduction. Halobacterium halobium carries a second retinal pigment called halorhodopsin. My favorite pigment-producing bacterium is Halobacterium because it is used in the food industry as a natural food dye.
