5 Tips for Saving Money in Phuket - Start planning your budget travel

While you cannot deny the fact that Phuket is one of the most expensive destinations in Thailand, you can get the best out of your trip here on a shoestring budget. Read on to know more.

1

Go for street food or local restaurants

Local restaurants you find in Phuket are local eating venues that specialize in Phuket or Thai cuisine. This would be the ideal way to mix and mingle with locals as they head over to local eateries to eat their familiar food. Do not expect fancy interior décor in these eateries similar to the ones you see in high-end restaurants. Sometimes there will be plastic chairs and simple tables. If you are lucky, you will have a roll of toilet paper and simple tables. Eating at a local restaurant in Phuket will be challenging as these places are crowded but it won't burn a hole in your pocket.

2

Travel in the low season

Phuket's weather is warm all year round and it usually has a tropical monsoonal climate. The hottest months are from April to May and from September to October. Due to the southwest monsoon, September–October period is known to be the wettest. The position in the Andaman Sea has made the weather in Phuket mostly mild. It is a rare scene to see several days of bad weather. It is recommended to follow online weather forecasts before you plan your itinerary. Browse for attractive accommodation offers when you travel in the low season as you check many resorts in Phuket and tour entities like Avani+ Mai Khao Phuket Suites & Villas.

3

Shop at Super Cheap

Towards the Northern side of Phuket town, there is a sprawling warehouse-like market offering you super cheap goods. It is stacked high with every product you can think of. As you enter the store you will hear people haggling over items in the store. Retail chaos is much alive and kicking in Thailand. The Super Cheap mostly sells wholesale but you can consider buying individual products for reasonable prices (Many bar and restaurant owners come here to do their shopping). Half the fun of making a visit to this shop is trying to understand its sequence of it. One of the must-have Phuket experiences.

4

Rent a motorbike

Driving a motorbike does not sound like something unusual but driving one in Phuket will give you a different feeling. Almost all the roads are of good quality. You will not find a more convenient mode of transport to get around Phuket than a motorbike. You can drive for miles up the hills towards the roads or along the coast without any distractions. Do not forget to drive by the nearby fishing village.

5

Withdraw large amounts from ATMs

Unless you have spent all your money so before your trip ends, there is no cheap way to convert foreign currency to Thai baht. A convenient option would be to withdraw cash from an ATM, but it will charge you a 200-baht transaction fee in the process. To save money, make fewer but larger withdrawals!
