06 Things to know before you go to Thailand – For a happier and safer tour

Thailand is, of course, a great destination to travel to for any sort of traveller. It has a lot in store for backpackers, families, and even those who are on corporate tours. So, read this article and plan your tour, and you are sure to enjoy every bit of your trip.

1

Dress modestly

The first thing you should know about Thailand is that it's a country with a Buddhist culture. You find a lot of temples and religious parks here in Thailand, and these places expect you to be modestly dressed. If you are a gentleman, a sarong will be a great option for you, and for ladies, long skirts will be a good choice. If ladies want to cover up their shoulders, they may also use a shawl. This is a way of showing respect to their culture, and you will not face any inconveniences then.

2

Flip-flops are a must

One fun fact about Thailand is that it requires you to take off your shoes often! It's understandable that you need to remove your shoes when entering temples, but isn't that a little odd to do the same when entering some shops too? Well... in Thailand, you will have to get used to this. So, flip-flops will be great for your Thailand tour as they are easy to slip on and off.

3

Don't miss out on the street food

You must already be aware of the fact that Thailand has some of the best street food, right? Thai street food dishes are delicious, and they are cheap as well. The best thing is that even vegetarians have great options. Don't worry too much about the hygiene factor- Thai street food is generally fresh and clean.

4

Scooters are only for the confident riders

In Thailand, it's a common sight to spot tourists riding scooters without helmets, and some of them are not even great riders. So, if you are not confident, make sure you don't ride a scooter no matter how fun it is. Thailand is a country that has motor accidents quite frequently, and some of them are even fatal. Tuk-tuk drivers almost own the Thai roads, so you better be careful.

5

Don't expect the food service to be fast

Unless you are at a restaurant of Anantara Golden Triangle or any other hotel in Chiang Rai, you can't expect the food to come to you as soon as you place the order. At local restaurants and shops, the food service is very slow and you can't do anything about it other than being prepared for that. So, when you go to such places, avoid ordering separate dishes for one another. Have a family-style dining where you share your food and this is what the locals do as well.

6

Take tuk-tuks

Tuk-tuks in Thailand are so common, and several taxi apps have been now developed to make it easier for people to book taxis. If you plan to take a tuk-tuk from one place to another, make sure you agree on the rates before your start the ride. Tuk-tuk scams are popular in Thailand, so you need to play smarter here.
