Revered by locals for its historical and religious significance and admired by almost all tourists as a cultural icon for photography and immersive admiration, Tanah Lot, which is set about 20 kilometres northwest of Kuta, is a dramatic rock formation nestled amidst the wide-open seas. Atop the naturally striking rock is the eponymous Hindu pilgrimage temple, Pura Tanah Lot, which is arguably the most beautiful temple out of the whole host of Bali’s ornate temples. Surrounded by the turquoise blue waters, the ancient temple is a wonderful sight to behold from dawn to dusk, but it is at its most breathtaking when set against the tranquil, gorgeous sunset.
