5 Fun Summer Activities in Melbourne You Cannot Miss in 2023 - For an unforgettable Melbourne Summer

The city comes alive during the summer. Its hip and young vibe pervade throughout the city, enticing you to experience life to the fullest. From zip-lining and surfing to free concerts, there's a lot you can enjoy in Melbourne during the summer.

1

Zipline over the Yarra River

Melbourne’s foremost ziplining experience is returning for the summer! You will be strapped onto a harness 6 metres overhead. Then, you will be whizzed 130 metres over the Yarra River at 35 kilometres per hour. It's a fun, safe and adrenaline-rushing experience while enjoying views of the city like never before. Ziplining will be available from December 16th to January 28. Time runs out fast, so book your tickets online in advance. Tickets are priced at $49 per head. If you're looking for a hotel near Melbourne, you can check out the likes of Avani Melbourne Central Residences.

Explore the city's laneways

Melbourne's laneways are some of the most fascinating that you will ever encounter.

You can spend a whole day outdoors just wandering around the laneways and never get bored. The constantly changing street art scene is fabulous. If you prefer a more professional tour, opt for a Melbourne street art tour guided by the artists themselves. They will lead you to secret artwork that you won't be able to find yourself.

Another option is the Secret City Experience. These tours will allow you to engage in Melbourne's finest architecture, laneways, artwork, quirky bars and trendy cafes, while engaging in fun puzzles and games! Expect riddles, mysterious directions, fun facts, and underground discoveries that involve a lot of teamwork. At the end of each segment, your sightseeing experience will be taken to another level. Winning teams will also be chosen. In the end, you’ll have a great time, make new friends and experience the city like never before!

Enjoy free concerts!

The Symphony Orchestra in Melbourne has conducted free shows for more than 90 years at the Sidney Myer Music Bowl! Three free outdoor concerts are scheduled to be held in February during the summer. You still have to book your tickets, which are on a first-come basis. As they run out super quickly, book them soon. Check out the Symphony Orchestra of Melbourne online for more information.

Explore a digital gallery

Visiting a digital gallery can be a fascinating experience, especially if you haven't visited one yet. Rather than just looking at the walls, at Melbournes' The Lume you will technically be immersed in the artwork. A digital gallery has enhanced sensory stimulation, with certain sounds and smells, creating a different experience altogether. The latest display, Monet & Friends, will delight lovers of the celebrated painter and engage in French Impressionism like never before. Sessions take place each day, on weekdays at 10 pm and weekends at 9 am. Adult ticket prices start at $39.

Go surfing

If you always wanted to surf but were afraid of sharks sneaking up on you, give URBNSURF a go! It is Melbourne’s only state-of-the-art surf park, that will help you try out the sport minus certain hazards. In there, you can learn how to surf, while experienced surfers can give their best go at The Point!  Soothe your achy muscles on the on-site hot tubs, and replenish at Three Blue Ducks,  a restaurant with celebrated chefs serving delicious meals.
