Ultimate Packing List For Maldives - Some must-haves!

A holiday in the Maldives is bound to be special! So here is a list of things to keep in mind when packing. You don't want to end up missing out on the must-haves while in the Maldives!

1

Clothes

Pack extra swimsuits in brilliant colours to lighten up your pictures even more! The sparkly blue-green waters will contrast with warm colours for some truly fabulous pictures! Try picking out colours like orange, fuchsia, red or yellow. For daytime wear, pick clothing such as cotton t-shirts, shirts, tank tops, and sundresses. Pick a cover-up like a sarong or kaftan to wear when you are not in the water. Also, pack a few comfy shorts, loose skirts and trousers to keep you cool and comfortable throughout the day. If visiting inhabited islands, it is important to dress conservatively and refrain from wearing shorts and tank tops.

2

Footwear

Pack a pair of open-toed sandals when going out for meals. Slippers will be indispensable, as you are most likely to be at the beach for the better part of your day. Also, pack some good hiking or walking shoes, if you intend to do some exploring in Male or some of the other islands.

3

Accessories/miscellaneous

Keep in mind that the Maldives has hot, tropical weather. It will get extremely hot, and your skin can burn when spending loads of time at the beach. Get your sun protection in order by packing a wide-brim hat, sunglasses, and good-quality coral-safe sunscreen.

Due to the hot weather, hair can get unruly, so pack enough clips, hair bands, barrettes etc. Spending a lot of time in the ocean and hot sun will dry out your hair and skin, so your go-to toiletries will be important.

Also, pack a big beach bag so you can put all your stuff when heading out to the beach. Don't forget to bring along a little backpack if you intend to go on an outing or a snorkelling trip.

Include a dry laundry bag to separate wet clothes from dry clothes. Also, pack a pouch to place all your electronic equipment like chargers and cables. Many Maldives beach hotels the likes of Velifushi Maldives by Cinnamon, will provide certain items, so it doesn't hurt to check with accommodations as to what items are provided.

Take along that book you wanted to read but just couldn't find the time to do so.

Also, include a reusable bottle to carry liquids along with you where ever you go.

Electronic items

Pack an international travel adapter, underwater camera to capture amazing pictures when snorkelling or scuba diving, your phone, charger and extra batteries. If you want to bring along a drone, make sure to check with the hotel staff first.

5

Gear

If you already have your snorkelling gear, you can always bring them with you to cut back on costs.

6

Leave these things at home

Don’t pack unnecessary shoes and distracting electronics like laptops and tablets!

Double-check all your snacks to see if they contain any pork or its by-products. Such items are illegal to bring into the country.

Refrain from bringing in non-Islamic religious material. The Maldives, as an Islamic nation, will not allow such items to cross the border.

The Maldives has a strict anti-drug policy, so don't bring medication in excess! Make sure you have all the necessary prescriptions or a doctor's note with you.
