5 Must haves on your packing list to Botswana

Are you having trouble deciding what to bring for your safari in Botswana? The following are some suggestions that will assist you in organising and packing everything you require for your trip to Botswana.

1

Clothing

Pack light and comfortable clothing for your Botswana safari. Bring lightweight, long-sleeved shirts, breathable pants, shorts, a swimsuit, and a hat. Include a light, waterproof jacket in case of rain. Consider bringing clothing that is neutral in colour to blend in with the environment. Don't forget to pack comfortable shoes, such as sneakers or hiking boots, to explore the terrain. Lastly, bring a scarf or bandana to protect yourself from the sun and dust. Keep in mind that you might experience some scorching temperatures during the summer months, which run from November to April. The evenings are noticeably cooler, although it can still be quite warm.

2

Gadgets

On safari, there are countless opportunities to take photographs. Remember to bring along the necessary accessories for your digital camera, such as extra batteries, power banks and whatnot, in addition to the camera itself. Remember, there are Botswana resorts the likes of Avani Gaborone Resort & Casino that are located in areas with spectacular views. So it's not only safaris that give you picture-taking opportunities in this country, sometimes you can do so even from your hotel room’s window! On a safari, binoculars are an absolute must, regardless of whether or not you consider yourself a birder. Even though there is light all around the campsites, you will still need a flashlight and/or a headlamp to go around before sunrise and after sunset. LED powered lamps are provided, but you might need something extra like a handheld torch. The Botswana plug outlets are linked to the 220-volt inverters that are installed in every safari vehicle. Only mobile phones, cameras, and torches with removable batteries can have their batteries charged using the charging facility.

Toiletries

Towels, shower gels, soaps and shampoos are provided both during the safari and when guests are staying in the lodges. You will need to bring all of your personal necessities, such as a toothbrush and toothpaste, deodorant, sunscreen, lip balms, and moisturiser, among other things.

4

Medicine

Even though there will be a fully stocked first aid kit onboard the safari vehicles, you should still make sure to bring enough of your regular medication to cover the duration of your trip, plus a few days' worth more just in case. Since there is always a chance of contracting malaria in Botswana, taking preventative measures is absolutely necessary. To avoid getting bitten by mosquitoes, make sure you wear long-sleeved shirts and long pants, especially after the sun goes down, and apply insect repellents to skin that is exposed. Please speak with your family doctor or the travel clinic in your area for antimalarial medication and guidance regarding malaria.

Money

The Botswana Pula is the country's official currency; however, the USD is also widely accepted across the country. Cards, both credit and debit, are available to be used to make purchases at a wide variety of stores and eateries, as well as to withdraw cash from automated teller machines.

When you go on a mobile safari, everything is taken care of for you; the only cash you'll need is for tipping the guide for the crew. Having said that, tipping is not required, and the amount that you leave is totally up to you.
