5 Excursions You Have to Take in the Maldives

What to do when you want to do more than just relax under the tropical sun?

If you’re travelling to the Maldives, you have one plan: to relax and unwind in the tropical sun on a beach too unimaginably beautiful to be real. That’s a perfect plan; however, you should know that there are far too many experiences in the Maldives that you shouldn’t miss out.

1

Dive with Manta Rays ad Turtles

Properties such as The Nautilus Maldives are set on reefs that are stunning – and are surrounded by an ocean full of colourful marine life. You should definitely give your adventurous side a chance and try diving here at least once. The ocean here is full of graceful giant Mantas and adorable turtles. You can get right up and close to them. A diving excursion can cost anywhere from $60 or more, but that is a steal of a deal for all the stories you will collect to take home.

2

Go island hopping

The activities in Maldives all have something to do with the ocean, but if you are in the mood for a day on land – go island hopping. No trip to the Maldives is complete without meeting some locals and trying the local cuisine. Most resorts will have pre-planned excursions that you can join on short notice, but it is always good to plan ahead, check with your resort and make bookings in advance. You can join a short cruise that will take you to at least one inhabited island and a few of the untamed and uninhabited ones.

3

Surfing on the Indian Ocean

If you have never surfed before, do not be dismayed, many of the travellers who come to these shores, pick it up and leave a diehard fan. The ocean in the Maldives is relatively calm and the waves are ideal for complete beginners. But even if you are a seasoned veteran, there are plenty of atolls where you can visit to catch some challenging waves.

4

Snorkel with sea stars

If scuba diving seems a bit too much, try snorkelling instead. The reefs in the Maldives are just jam-packed with all sorts of colourful amazing critters, corals and fish. The waters here are calm and warm and snorkelling here can be quite a transcendental experience. If you try it once, you will definitely find yourself spending hours each day exploring the shallow depths of your resort’s home reef.

5

Go on a boat tour

If island-hopping did not satisfy your itch for the open seas, sign up for a boat tour. You can find plenty of amazing deals in the Maldives. You can spend a romantic evening chasing killer sunsets and watching adorable dolphins play. If you are lucky and visit the Maldives at the right time of the year, you will probably see whale sharks gracefully making their way through the ocean to their feeding grounds. You can cap the day with an amazing dinner with wine on deck and stargaze while you make your way back to your luxury resort and private villa.
