Things to do in Qatar – for an exciting vacation!

This beautiful city located in the scorching sands of Middle Eastern deserts is one of the most luxurious destinations in the world as well as a popular international travel hub. Here are some things to do on your exciting journey here.

1

Dune Bashing

Every bit as cool as the name, dune bashing is a super fun activity that is also family-friendly. You can drive on the vast sand dunes in a 4x4 at high exhilarating speeds. You even have the option of spending a night in the desert Arabian Nights style, in tents with bonfires and camels.

2

Souq Waqif

From kitschy tourist souvenirs to gold and valuable antiques, you can find anything here. Souq Waqif is the heart of all traditional souqs here and there are many vendors selling valuable perfumes, spices, jewellery, and bespoke handicraft.

3

The Doha Corniche

Just 29 mins away from Souq Al Wakra Hotel Qatar by Tivoli and other similar hotels is the best place to spend a lazy, late afternoon at. The Doha Corniche is a beautiful promenade stretching across the Persian Gulf from some of the best hotels in Qatar to the Museum of Islamic Art.

4

The Museum of Islamic Art

The Museum of Islamic Art was created by architect I.M. Pei, who recommended that it be situated on a separate island so that no other structures would impede it. The museum, which is located just off the Corniche, appears to be floating from some perspective

5

The Sheikh Faisal Bin Qassim Al Thani Museum

This quirky museum houses the private collection of the Sheikh, a distant cousin of the country's Emir. You can see random objects he collected over the years such as an old Ottoman bomb, a selection of vintage cars, pearling boats, and other interesting items.

6

Art in the desert

The famous East-West/West-East sculpture by Richard Serra stands 15m tall in the Brouq Nature Reserve. The four giant plates are spread across 1km stretching along a corridor from the desert to the sea.

7

The Al Zubarah Fort and the abandoned village

This village and the fort are Qatar's first UNESCO World Heritage site. The fort is the area's most recent structure, albeit the archaeological relics here date to the 1700s. It looks out over Al Zubarah, an ancient thriving pearl fishing village where traders from China and Britain sailed some 200 years ago.

The mangroves in Al Thakira

This is a beautiful area stretching out as far as the eye can see, with its own greenery and water; an oasis. Herons and flamingos have been travelling to the area for years, and it is abundant with bird life. Renting a kayak and getting lost in the vegetation is the greatest way to enjoy the mangroves.
