Travel Tips for Mauritius – Know Before You Go!

Mauritius has amazing beaches and is a lovely island with stunning topography, lively cultural traditions and lots of delicious food. Here are some travel tips for those who want to visit this island paradise.

1

The best period to visit!

It is best to plan visits to Mauritius somewhere between November to March. The climate will be hot and sunny all over Mauritius. The temperature is generally about 30 Celsius degrees, while the seas are delightfully warm at 26-27 Celsius degrees. Periodic and short rainfall occurs because of heightened humidity but it clears away quite fast. Another option is to visit in August or October. The weather will have an average temperature of about 25 Celsius degrees. The East Coast will be colder and breezy, but swimming is quite pleasant at around 25 Celsius degrees.

How to get there?

The major airport is Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport, which is serviced by multiple international airlines like Emirates, Air France, KLM, and the national airline Air Mauritius. A taxi transfer from the airport costs about 1700 Mauritian rupees. If going to Grand Baie, it will be slightly more. For other cities, the price will differ, but it won't be more than 2500 Mauritian rupees.

How long should you stay?

Don't make your trip shorter than two weeks, you will regret it once you get there as there won't be sufficient time to explore Mauritius. If on a shorter holiday, try to aim for at least a ten-day stay to allow you to travel across the island.

Taxis will be readily available at hotels, but you can go on public transport to experience life in Mauritius as well. Nearly all of the main routes are serviced by various bus corporations. In towns, running times are from 5:30 am - 8:30 pm, while in rural regions these times range from 6:30 am - 6:30 pm.
