Things to Do on a Koh Samui Vacation – Tropical Fun in the Sun

Koh Samui is one of the most favourite Thai islands and with good reason! The calm, laid-back lifestyle in Samui, along with the fantastic beaches, attractions and lovely people, make it an ideal travel destination for travellers.

1

Visit Wat Phra Yai

Thailand is a spiritual place, and the islands are no different. The Big Buddha, also called Wat Phra Yai, is the most well-known attraction in Koh Samui. It is located in Bophut, overlooking its picturesque landscape. Made from gold, this magnificent statue is linked to the island via a causeway and stands 12 metres tall. The Buddha takes on the impressive Mara stance, where he categorically rejected all of Mara's temptations on his way to achieving Buddhahood. If you're looking for accommodation around here, a Samui resort the likes of Anantara Bophut Koh Samui Resort would make for a good stay.

2

Be amazed by Hin Ta and Hin Yai – odd rock formations!

Hin Ta and Hin Yai are famous rock formations resembling certain human body parts. It is also known as grandpa and grandma rocks by the locals. According to folklore, an old couple on their journey to find a bride for their son got stranded at sea and their dead bodies washed up to the shore. It is said that the old couple thus turned to stone! The formations are fascinating, to say the least!

3

Visit Wat Plai Laem

This colourfully decorated temple is towards the north of the Big Buddha temple. At its centrepiece is the impressive statue of the 18-armed Goddess of Mercy, Guanyin. There is a lake within the temple and a statue of Lord Buddha overlooking the beautiful scenery.

4

Be mesmerised by Na Muang Waterfalls

Na Muang Waterfalls are roughly an hour away from the Big Buddha. There are no public means of transport to see the waterfalls. Visitors will have to arrange a taxi or rent a scooter for the trip. The perfect time to see the waterfalls is from September to November during the monsoon season. There are two waterfalls, Na Muang 1, and Na Muang 2. The former has a stunning natural rock pool to swim in, but it may get crowded during peak seasons. For Na Muang 2, there is another uphill 30-minute trek involved, but you will be rewarded with a near-deserted waterfall all to yourself!

5

Visit Ang Thong National Marine Park

Discover Ang Thong National Marine Park, which has a collection of 42 islands showcasing breathtaking limestone cliffs and stone monoliths. The pristine beaches look like they are straight out of a postcard! These islands are home to a variety of endangered animals, and guided tours are available to explore the park. Water sports are also extremely popular here, and one can spend an afternoon snorkelling, diving, kayaking, or just exploring this amazing terrain along its many hiking paths.

Have fun at a beach

The beaches at Koh Samui are popular locations among travellers. There is a very vibrant social scene, with beach discos, restaurants and bars. It is an ideal place for a beachside romantic dinner overlooking the beautiful beach and the setting sun.
