Utheemu Ganduvaru

This is a palace found in Utheemu in Haa Alifu atoll in one of the northernmost regions in the Maldives. This small island resembles a jellyfish and is a historically important site, as the home of Sultan Mohamed Thakurufaanu. A revered personage in the history of the Maldives, the Sultan and his brothers are credited for routing the Portuguese invaders away from Maldivian territory. After that, he served as Sultan for 12 years till his demise in 1585. The palace has a memorial placed and is a heritage building. The home of Sultan Mohamed is architecturally unique and constructed from wood. This is a site worth visiting while in the Maldives!
Other attractions in Utheemu include the ancient cemetery, the new mosque, and the North Shore beach.

Majeedhee Magu

A famous attraction in Male is Majeedhee Magu. It is a shopping street filled with all kinds of goods. Majeedhee Magu is simply a stroll from the central road of Male. You can find clothing, a range of local treats, trinkets, and so much more here. Look out for regionally made handicrafts, which are perfect as gifts for friends, family, and yourself. It's open from 9:00 am to 11:00 pm, so you have plenty of time to explore at length.

The National Museum

Found in Male in a quaint building, the National Museum of the Maldives is the best place to visit to acquaint oneself with the history of the Maldives. The Museum holds a sizeable display of artefacts with some dating to the earliest years of the nation of Maldives. The structure is a portion of a Maldivian Royal Palace of the 17th century and has a public garden and playground called Sultan Park. The well-conserved premises include impressive colonnades and historical relics detailing the country's past. The museum welcomes a considerable number of sightseers and lovers of art. Some of the major artefacts include a wooden plank dating back to the 13th century, and the bust of Lord Buddha carved from coral dating back to the 11th century. Hukuru Miskiiy

Hukuru Miskiiy is the most ancient mosque in the Maldives and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Built in 1656, this historical location is placed right in the centre of modern architecture, thus its contrast is striking! Once you step into the interior, it will feel like you have stepped back in time! Interestingly, Hukuru Miskiiy faces the setting sun more than the customary northeast direction where Mecca is! The walls are made of coral stone, while intricate wooden carvings decorate their walls. Its whole set-up is remarkably unusual and attractive and worth a visit!
