Top 5 Offbeat Places to Visit in Maldives- Some places you would otherwise likely miss!

The Maldives is synonymous with luxurious resorts and impeccable beaches. Nevertheless, if you limit yourself to a resort, it is most likely you will miss out on some spectacular attractions the Maldives has to offer! Check out below for some inspiration to enliven your trip more!

1

Vaadhoo Island

Vaadhoo Island is where you will encounter the Sea of Stars! The sea waters on this island are home to numerous bioluminescent plankton. Over here, the amount of plankton is very high that it appears like neon blue droplets in the ocean. For the finest spectacle of this natural phenomenon, visit the island from May until November. Getting to the island is effortless and inexpensive; you just have to take a motorboat from Malé. The site is otherworldly, to say the least, and offers a magical experience never to be forgotten.

2

Maafushi in Kaafu Atoll

Maafushi is not your typical private island resort as it's an inhabited island. Nevertheless, the location is great if you like to experience the local island lifestyle of the Maldivians.
The place was devastated during the 2004 Indian Ocean Tsunami. Even now, the administrators are reconstructing it! You can also see the fishing jetties and sailor huts found on the site.
The beaches are stunning, isolated, and dreamy.

3

Hukuru Miskiiy

Hukuru Miskiiy in Male is the most ancient Mosque in the Maldives and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This historical location is placed right in the centre of modern architecture! Thus, its contrast is striking, to say the least! Then when you go inside, it feels like you have stepped back in time!
The site is well-maintained from the time of its construction in 1656 to now. Interestingly, Hukuru Miskiiy is placed to face the setting sun rather than the northeast direction.
The walls are made of coral stone and are remarkably unusual and appealing. The intricate wood carvings on its walls are another famous attraction. 5-star resorts in Maldives the likes of Adaaran Prestige Water Villas can be great options to consider when looking out for accommodation, which are only a seaplane journey away from Male.

4

Majeedhee Magu

If staying in the capital, Majeedhee Magu is your go-to spot for souvenir shopping in Male. The road has a bunch of shops featuring an assortment of Maldivian treats, clothing, and regional handicrafts to take back home with you. The street is easily located by walking along the main road and is open from 9 am to 11 pm.

5

National Museum/Sultan Park

There is a good selection of artefacts found regionally, as well as an informative display of the history of the Maldives. Towards the evening, Sultan Park is a nice place to relax and is located next to the National Museum. The Park is small, but it offers a lot of shade and calm in bustling Male. Plus, it can be a nice distraction if there are children with you as there is a small playground as well!
