The chiefs, Khama III, Bathoen I, and Sebele I travelled in 1895 to Great Britain to meet Queen Victoria and Joseph Chamberlain, Secretary of State for the Colonies. They requested to divide the Bechuanaland Protectorate from Cecil Rhodes's British South Africa Company and Southern Rhodesia (Zimbabwe).
