This large and semi-arid sandy desert is undoubtedly one of the most interesting places to visit as it is quite different from what we imagine to be a desert. Kalahari receives plenty of rainfall annually! (between 5 and 10 inches). Compared to the dryer south, ample wildlife can be found in the wetter north. If you are lucky, you will be able to spot some of the dessert specialities such as brown hyenas, cape foxes, bat-eared foxes and meerkats. Arid-adapted game includes duiker, steenbok, wildebeest, kudu, gemsbok (oryx) and springbok. Birdlife includes the ostrich, Kori bustard, secretary bird and a myriad of birds of prey including the giant eagle owl, kites, kestrels, goshawks, and martial eagle falcons.
