Nuwara Eliya is everyone's favourite hillside destination located in the heart of Sri Lanka's mountainous terrain. The town captures the beauty of the landscape while providing many enjoyable sights and sounds for its visitors.

Make a Day Trip to Horton Plains

One of the main attractions that you can explore while holidaying in Nuwara Eliya is Horton Plains National Park. The Park has an incredible landscape and a rich biodiversity. Its highlight for many is the 'World's End', which is a sharp 880m incline with spectacular views! On a clear day, the vista extends from tea plantations to the coastline! Go there as early as possible before 9 am to get the best views, bypass crowds and avoid the mists.

Have Fun at Victoria Park

Victoria Park is a public park located in the heart of Nuwara Eliya. Although a small fee is required to get in, you will be greeted with well-manicured lawns, vivid flowering beds, ponds, benches and many walkways. It's a pretty location for a picnic or a run to get yourself geared up for a day of exploring! You can find many luxury bungalows in Nuwara Eliya and the surrounding towns. The likes of Langdale Boutique Hotel are among the top places close to all these attractions.

Visit Mount Pedro

Locally called Pidurutalagala, Mount Pedro is the highest mountain in Sri Lanka. It is less than a 30-minute drive away from the main town. At over 8000 feet in height, the mountain is home to a local media transmission tower. Visitors can reach Mount Pedro up to its viewing point by either car or van. There is quite a bit of wildlife here, so keep an eye out! If you are lucky, you may spot an elusive Sri Lankan leopard! Close by Mount Pedro is a tea estate, which is open to visitors. The factory conducts tours of its grounds, and at the end of it, you can sip some freshly brewed Ceylon tea, overlooking the glorious mountains landscape.

Spend Some Time at Haggala Botanical Gardens

It is the second-largest in Sri Lanka and is in the town of Haggala, which is 5km from Nuwara Eliya Town. The gardens are immaculate and well-kept and feature a plethora of flora like cacti, roses, orchids, ferns and much more. Overlooking the backdrop of the mountains, the gardens are a terrific place to get some incredible-looking photos.

Visit Lover's Leap Waterfall

Lover's Leap Waterfall is one of the most famous waterfalls in Sri Lanka, due to the harrowing tales told of young lovers making the waterfall their watery grave. This pretty waterfall holds some striking scenery for its visitors! To appreciate it even more, try hiking up the waterfall and cool off with a plunge into the pristine waters below.

Make a Trip to Moon Plains

This is one of the latest attractions to hit Nuwara Eliya and is just 6 km from the town. Moon Plains opened for visitors in 2014, but very few visit it to this day! Its large grassy plains overlooking the hillsides offer beautiful scenery. It is quite hard to believe that it once used to be a garbage dump!
