How to Plan a 7-Day Trip to Saudi Arabia – A Guide to Organising a Week-Long Getaway in Saudi Arabia

As one of the Middle East's most vibrant holiday destinations, Saudi Arabia offers travellers an uncompromising look at the region without the glitter and glam of the U.A.E. Exotic as it is breathtaking, Saudi Arabia is a land of contrast that cannot be explored over a short stay. From travelling during the right time of year to including the best cities in your itinerary, here's how to plan an unforgettable getaway to Saudi Arabia.

1

Time the Visit

While there is an off-season in every travel hotspot, one cannot afford to be caught unawares when it comes to the weather patterns in Saudi Arabia. Travelling during the off-peak season is not only unwise but makes for a nightmarish holiday experience in a Middle Eastern country such as Saudi Arabia due to the intense heat and humidity of the desert nation. This is why all tourists must visit the country between November and February when temperatures are pleasant and not too warm for outdoor excursions. The period from April to October, however, is the summer season and the least appropriate time to head to this part of the world.

2

Day One

Your first day in Saudi Arabia should be spent in the capital Riyadh as most international flights land in the city. Some of the best things to do during your day in Riyadh besides exploring the shopping hubs in the bustling metropolis include touring the National Museum of Saudi Arabia and the Masmak Fortress. Those with time and the energy to spare can schedule visits to Qasr Al-Hokm, Wadi Hanifah and the Al-Turaif District.

Day Two

The second day of the trip should be spent in Jeddah, which is a quick domestic flight away from the capital. As the commercial epicentre of the country, this charming port town is a beach lover's dream come true. Laden with lush, green parks and waterfront promenades, Jeddah's heritage homes made from coral and the iconic artworks on display make it ideal for culture buffs. Those who land in Jeddah can alternatively spend their second day in Riyadh.

4

Day Three

Jeddah requires at least two days and those who are planning to experience the best of the city must spend their second day in this area splashing around Silver Sands Beach and Jabal al-Nour. Known for its excellent seafood cuisine, the beach hub deserves at least half a day. Other highlights to explore during your time in Jeddah include King Fahd's Fountain and Al-Balad with its historic landmarks.

5

Day Four

Your next destination should be Abha, which offers travellers a more remote and diverse landscape. Those who are based at Citadines Abha or any similar serviced apartments in Abha can also spend time in nearby Taif. A nature lover's paradise, this is where Saudi Arabia's famed rose farms and fruit cultivation venues are found. In addition to offering tourists the chance to explore the Turkish Fort and picturesque Al Radf Park, Taif also affords one the chance to shop at its pre-Islamic souk.

6

Day Five and Six

Mecca should be the next city in your itinerary whether you are a believer or not. Non-Muslims are allowed to embark on guided tours of what is perhaps the most visited religious site in the world so take the opportunity to explore the holiest location in Islam. The city is vast as it is impressive, and tourists should take their time and experience the natural beauty and the manmade heritage sites in Mecca.

Last Day

Medina is a short distance away from Mecca and is the perfect location to end your trip. Apart from touring Al-Masjid a Nabawi, Masjid Al Qiblatayn and other well-loved attractions, Medina is also where the mountains of Al Baida are found.
