Bueng Kaen Nakhon Lake

Without a doubt, Beung Kaen Nakhon is one of the most charming locations in the city with its serene temples and majestic tree groves. Make it a point to pause your walk around the lake by taking the time to explore the many shrines and nearby Hall of Culture and Heritage, located nearby. Come afternoon, a small food market springs to life, offering visitors the chance to indulge in some delicious street food. Alternatively, there are plenty of restaurants near the lake one can head to as well.

Khon Kaen Temples

The most significant and largest temple in the city, Wat Nong Waeng is built near the Bueng Kaen Nakhon Lake. The place of worship was built in the very year, the city was first founded - in 1789. Currently, there are 50 monks and over 200 novices who live on the temple premises. The Wat Nong Waeng is surrounded by expansive fields which only serve to make the large stupa even more impressive.

Ton Taan Night Market

The largest and most lively market in Khon Kaen, the ever-popular Ton Taan Night Market offers shoppers the chance to purchase locally made handicrafts, traditional clothing, artwork, fresh produce and much more. Located on Mittraphap Street, the market is open daily to the public from 16:00 to 23:00 every day.

Phu Wiang National Park & Dinosaur Museum

Keen on learning about the dinosaurs who once called this region home aeons ago. Then simply make your way to both the National Park; and the Phu Wiang Fossil Research Centre and Dinosaur Museum. Located to the northwest of the city, one can easily reach the attraction from many a hotel in Khon Kaen including those such as Avani Khon Kaen Hotel & Convention Centre with absolute ease. Here one can learn about the geology of the dinosaurs that lived in Thailand and take in excavated fossils including many bone fragments and recreations. The Phu Wiang National Park is also a great spot to spend time in with its offering of many hiking trails that offer rewarding views of the stunning mountains in the area. Bang Saen Beach

Bang Sean Beach is a beloved getaway for the residents of Khon Kaen City. It's a place where they gravitate to enjoy swims, great food and boat rides along with plenty of other fun activities. Located 55 km from the city and consisting an hour's drive, Bang Saen Beach also boasts some popular floating restaurants on bamboo platforms.
