At 2,329 metres, Mount Bromo is not Indonesia's tallest mountain. But what it lacks in height, it makes up for in spectacular views. The mountain is located in the Tengger Massif, in East Java, and is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the country. The best time to climb Mount Bromo is during the dry season, from April to November. The mountain can be climbed in a day, but many visitors choose to stay overnight at one of the nearby hotels or camping grounds. There are a number of different routes up the mountain, ranging from easy to challenging. Once at the top of Mount Bromo, visitors are treated to stunning views of the surrounding area. On a clear day, it is even possible to see Mount Semeru.
