Phuket markets are an institution, and missing out is not an option. Shopping at Phuket markets can definitely be an affordable experience – you will only need skilful haggling. Consider bargaining at around 30 to 40% below the asking price. Do be prepared to shop around and not seem overly keen on what you are intent on purchasing. One might also get more of a discount when buying in bulk. It's important to also be polite and civilised when bargaining. While getting around on local buses is an extremely cheap option, you will find it's not very convenient or quick. Renting a motorbike will only set you back 200 baht a day. Remember to always wear a helmet and carry your licence, as fines are hefty. Also make it a point to drive with caution and care, as getting involved in an accident can cost you a lot of money, and a lot of hassle.

Withdraw your cash in one go

In order to save money, opt to make fewer but larger withdrawals. Do make it a point to lock any excess cash in your in-room safe. Making purchases with your debit card will include an additional percentage in fees, so it's much cheaper to withdraw money from an ATM in one go, and pay with cash.
