@LetsMoveLibrary @ruralhealthinfo @NOSORH The library is an integral part of connection for some rural residents, including parents with preschool children coming to the library for storytime and older retired residents in a retirement community stopping by for reading material. #PowerofRural #RuralHealthChat

@Hoosierdiana @ruralhealthinfo @NOSORH We agree! And we're here to make sure librarians are part of the conversation. Libraries don't run themselves and librarians can and should be part of the conversation about how to most effectively address rural health disparities. #RuralHealthChat #PowerofRural

Q1: What is health literacy and why is it so important for the health of rural residents? To what extent do rural populations experience barriers to health literacy? #RuralHealthChat #PowerofRural https://t.co/7xVETj1SOU

Tweet by Natl Organization of State Offices of Rural Health(@NOSORH)

A1: #Rural residents are more likely to have chronic diseases & experience #SDOH that impact health literacy & contribute to lower educational attainment, & increased poverty rates. These factors directly affect an individual's health & well-being. #RuralHealthChat #PowerOfRural https://t.co/wrE4T2iPy3

@ruralhealthinfo A1: Groups with known #HealthLiteracy challenges (e.g. those with less education, those from some racial and ethnic groups) make up a significant share of the population in some rural communities. #RuralHealthChat #PowerofRural

A1: We use the Healthy People 2030 health literacy definition with two distinct and related components: personal and organizational health literacy #RuralHealthChat #PowerofRural https://t.co/pPBTon0QEu

A1: Health literacy is essential in that it is how people receive, interpret and act on health information, and this is why it’s critical that they have trusted sources of information to meet them where they are. This is how we can remove barriers. #RuralHealthChat #PowerOfRural https://t.co/GDSoeJQ0Fo

A1: The CDC National Action Plan to Improve Health Literacy has three goals: Goal #1 to “Develop and Share Health and Safety Information That Is Accurate, Accessible, and Actionable.” https://t.co/GyPKtymhSy #RuralHealthChat #PowerofRural https://t.co/q9jhs1Wgdk
