Sitting on a peninsula from across Fukuoka, Uminonakamichi Seaside Park is a sprawling stretch of land that’s perfect for families. The colours of the park change in response to the season. A visit to this park is a must-do for every tourist visiting Fukuoka. Here’s how you can explore Uminonakamichi Seaside Park.

Uminonakamichi Seaside Park

Not surprisingly, Uminonakamichi Seaside Park is one of the most visited family attractions in Japan. The park combines several playgrounds, flower gardens, a water park, lawns, and large open spaces ideal for family picnics. This large leisure park is the best place to discover seasonal flowers.

This sprawling park covers about four kilometres from one end to the other, so exploring the entire park on foot is not possible. However, there are walking trails that will lead you through the thick foliage of the park. There are numerous cycling trails as well. There’s a bicycle rental at the entrance of the park. You can rent a cycle for three hours or the entire day. For three hours, the cost is 500 yen, and for a full day, the cost is 700 yen.

A bus operates within the park covering the distances between major sites. The cost per ride is 200 yen, and the day pass is 500 yen. The bus service is only available in autumn and spring.

The park is approximately half an hour’s drive from lyf Tenjin Fukuoka. This is a popular tourist attraction, so you can find accommodation within half an hour’s distance of the park. Hotels and resorts are a popular choice, and if you are considering shared living in Fukuoka close to the park, your accommodation requirements will be catered for as well.

Events

The park is the venue for a number of events, so time your visit accordingly to have a memorable experience. Also, keep in mind that these events are seasonal.

The Flower Picnic is held in spring; the Rose Festival can be enjoyed in early summer and autumn, and the Cosmos Festival is an autumn event.

Facilities

The park is well-equipped for tourist visits. There are BBQ spots, and you can rent barbeque outfits as well.

The park features well-maintained picnic spaces dotted with flowering trees. You’ll also find an amusement park named Wonder World. Inside the park are numerous attractions, including a large trampoline and a Ferris wheel.

Flower viewing

This is one of the best places to see the famed cherry blossoms, but they are not the only type of flower you find here. The park is a nurturing ground for millions of flowers, including tulips, narcissus, sunflowers, and roses. These are seasonal flowers, which means they bloom according to the respective season. However, a lot of flowers bloom from mid-March until early autumn, which is the general blooming season.

The cycling tracks are lined with cherry trees; there are about 2,000 cherry trees planted all over the park, which makes this a popular cherry blossom site. To see cherry blossoms, visit in March and April.

Aquarium

The park’s aquarium is called Marine World, and it houses over 350 species of fish. The main highlight is the 120 sharks. The outdoor tanks are a popular feature as well.

Inside the aquarium is a massive stadium pool where you can enjoy sea lion and dolphin performances. Also, note that you have to pay a separate entrance fee for the aquarium.

Getting around

You can get to Uminonakamichi Station from Hakata Station in about 40 minutes. You can also take the ferry from Momochi Seaside Park, and the ride is about 20 minutes; there’s a ferry every two hours.

Hours

The park is typically open from 9.30 AM to 5.30 PM, but the hours vary according to the season. There’s an admission fee of 450 yen, but it doesn’t cover every attraction inside the park; you may have to pay a separate fee for some attractions.
