As one of Qatar's most famous UNESCO World Heritage Sites, no trip to the country would be complete without touring the Al Zubara Fort. Built by none other than Sheikh Abdullah bin Jassim Al Thani in 1938, the fortress is easily identifiable from its 3 large round towers and single square tower. Although it was originally built to serve as a coast guard facility, it is now a functioning museum where exhibitions of a historical nature take place regularly. Situated 105km away from Doha, the nation's capital, the best time to visit the fort is during the morning hours when the heat and humidity are bearable.
