According to Time magazine, Utah is ranked as one of the top five healthiest states. In college, it’s easy to start unhealthy eating habits, but it’s also one of the most important times to be at your best body, mind, and spirit. A good way to keep Utah in the top rankings for health is to cleanse out our systems every once in a while.
Let’s start with the most obvious one, water. Drinking lots of water helps flush the toxins out of your system. Make sure to carry a water bottle to all of your college classes. A good rule of thumb is to drink about 2/3 of your body weight in ounces a day. For example, if you weigh 120 pounds you should be drinking about 80 ounces of water. You also need to be aware that when you live in dry states like Utah your body might need even more water than that. When detoxing you obviously need to eliminate things that cause toxins in the first place; things such as alcohol, cigarettes, refined sugars, and even dairy. It may be hard initially, but in the long run you'll feel healthier and have more energy through your Utah college classes.
By sweating your body eliminates toxins from the body. There are many parkways in Utah, and if you live close to a Utah college campus there may even be a free track available. Exercising just 30 minutes a day is enough to get those toxins out, just make sure you break a sweat!
Eat raw fruits, veggies, and leafy greens. They’re high in fiber as well as antioxidants. These are especially easy to find in Utah during the summer, but your local grocery store will have them during the winter as well. Here’s a list of some foods with detoxing power: http://www.fitsugar.com/Top-10-Detoxifying-Foods-1502255
Anything with vitamin c (oranges, lemons, limes) is good for detoxes. Vitamin C aids the body in flushing away toxins. Starting your day with a warm glass of lemon water can wake up and clean up your digestive system.
Make sure to get at least 8 hours of sleep a night. Go to sleep between 10 pm and 2 am, this is the time your body naturally heals and detoxifies itself. That way you’ll be refreshed when you wake up and head to your early morning Utah college class.
