There is no end to the journey of self-improvement. There is always something more we can learn and there is always something more we can do. There are boundless opportunities to better yourself every single day. The sheer enormity of options for self-improvement can be daunting; there’s so much that can be done where should you start? Here’s a list of a few things you can do every day to start you on your journey to self improvement.
For college students, this might be a bit of a challenge, but the saying “early to bed, early to rise makes a man healthy, wealthy, and wise” is more than just a saying. Waking up early has been shown to improve your productivity and quality of life.
Write down all of the tasks you wish to complete for the day. This will help you stay focused as well as help you realize all that you have accomplished. You don’t have to feel bound to the list, if you aren’t able to do everything that day simply move any incomplete tasks to tomorrow’s list.
If you’re in college, take a class that just sounds fun to you, whether it has to do with your major or not. If you’re not in college, see if there is a college course you are interested in that you can audit. This is a great way to gain new knowledge and skills. There are many colleges to choose from in Utah. There is bound to be a class nearby.
Utah has many things to offer; rock climbing, hiking, skiing, snowboarding, boating, fishing, these are a just a few. Pick up a new hobby, whether it’s learning to play tennis, taking up fly fishing, or even learning how to scuba dive, there is a place in Utah to accommodate all of your new found hobbies.
Learning a new language is a great mind-opener. You acquaint yourself with a new culture and broaden your horizons. It expands the places you might visit and the people you might meet here in Utah. Not only that, but it’s also good for your health. It has been found that those who speak at least two different languages are much less likely to develop Alzheimer’s.
If you have certain patterns and routines, break out of them! You’re best chance of not getting stuck in a rut is to do something different every day. It can be as simple as ordering something other than your regular menu choice, or going to a restaurant you’ve never been before. Go for a walk instead of watching tv, or look in a shop you’ve never been in before. As long as you’re doing something different to break the monotony you are opening doors for your future.
Everyone has fears. Fear of public speaking, fear of uncertainty, fear of embarrassment. Fears represent areas where you can grow. If you are afraid to do something the best way to grow is to face that fear and do what you’re afraid of. Step out of your comfort zone. Your comfort zone is nice, but if you stay there you stagnate. If you’re afraid of learning how to dance for fear of looking foolish, take that dance class and do your best! Whether you find out you love it or not, you are growing just by trying. Your local Utah college might even offer a dance course.
Sometimes it seems so hard to be kind, but kindness has a way of coming back to us. Start showing more kindness to the people around you and notice how they react, also notice how you feel better just by being kind to others. Smile at that person when walking to class at your local Utah college. They’ll appreciate it.
