The rainy season in Laos starts in May and lasts till the end of September. During this time, you can expect tropical rains, windstorms and flooding. The daytime temperature in the lowlands is about 29°C and in the valleys, it gets around 23°C. If your plans coincide with the wet season, you may be required to sort out some activities for kids in secure places.

The dry season starts in October and goes on till late April. This time is great for traversing the many islands surrounding Laos, with plenty of places to cool off, like stunning beaches and waterfalls. The warmest times are generally from March to April and the beginning of the rainy season. Even during the driest months, nights can get cold, so packing a few warm sweaters is advisable.

Take Care of Your Children

An important tip is to sort out your travel insurance well in advance of the trip. Spend time organising travel insurance with wider coverage and carefully check the activities and circumstances covered by the insurance and what is not included. If you are booking via a travel agent, give them all the information about what you and your family will be doing on vacation so they can select the most suitable cover for you.
