5 Family Friendly Activities in Koh Lanta - A fun-filled island escapade for the whole family

The island paradise of Koh Lanta is a great place to vacation with kids, with plenty of fun and educational activities to keep everyone happy and entertained.

1

Join up with trash hero

Teach your kids the importance of protecting our environment and creating a lasting impact on them by becoming Trash Heroes for the day by helping clean up Koh Lanta. Trash Hero World strives to make an impact on Koh Lanta and help keep her trash-free. The community joins people from all over the world to clean the beaches and decrease the amount of waste that gets accumulated. They get together at Long Beach Park for clean-ups often, and anyone can join them. They will provide all cleaning materials, protective gear like gloves, and serve refreshments while you work.

2

Lanta animal welfare centre

If you have kids who love animals, visit Lanta Animal Welfare Centre. This non-profit organisation helps abandoned, homeless, injured and abused dogs and cats with medical care, vaccinations, rehoming and sterilisation.

The organisation started in 2005, and up until now, it has supported more than 15,000 homeless animals. Visitors can pet and play with cats and dogs, and perhaps, volunteer to take them on walks or spend some time assisting the members to care for animals. Either way, it's time well spent helping and making a difference for others. Many Krabi resorts the likes of Avani+ Koh Lanta Krabi Resort can be an option to base your stay on and explore the island.

3

Explore the Old Town

Spend a relaxing morning with the kids and stroll through the west coast of Koh Lanta to the Old Town. Here, you get to explore a striking amalgamation of traditions and cultures. The town was once a significant stop for merchants travelling from Penang to Phuket and has a majority of the Thai-Chinese population living here, quite evident from the red lanterns, Chinese temples, and altars. When roaming about the streets, you will notice multiple teak homes on stilts built over the sea. Find plenty of restaurants, shops and local handicrafts, like batik art, trinkets, keepsakes, and regional produce.

4

Mu Koh Lanta National Park

Mu Koh Lanta National Park is located in the south of the island. The excursion to the National Park is quite scenic as well, and you will be able to spot some monkeys along the route. The foremost attraction here has become the Koh Lanta Lighthouse, which has become a landmark of sorts for the island. Jungle treks within the park will lead you through lush, dense forests, and spot sightings of the wildlife living here. There is also a spectacular beach with blue waters and white sand, which are great for swimming!
But be cautious to not leave your belongings unattended near the beach, as notoriously cheeky monkeys crowd along the coastlines, waiting for their chance to scurry off with some goods!

5

Visit Sea Gypsy Village

Stop by and visit the remarkable Sea Gypsy Village, located on the southeastern end of the island. The Sea Gypsies used to live a nomadic existence as seafarers of the Andaman Sea and trace their ancestry to Indo-Malay roots dating some 500 years back. Here, you can speak with the villagers, encounter their daily lives, and partake in local delicacies! It's a great way for children to learn about other cultures, their history, and way of life.
