Guide to Spend Memorable Beach Vacation in Sri Lanka – A holiday in paradise

Swaying palms, delightfully balmy weather and shimmering white sands, make Sri Lanka an ideal destination to treat yourself to absolute beach bliss. The tropical isle is home to over 1,600km of beaches and is one for every beach lover's wish list. Read on to discover the best beaches on the island!

1

Mirissa Beach

Located on the southern coast of the island, Mirissa is a busy yet idyllic beach which is an especially great spot for whale watching - anywhere from November to the middle of April. It also makes for a great base to explore nearby attractions including some beautiful wildlife parks including Yala. Mirissa is also one of the best surf destinations in Sri Lanka - especially for beginners. There are plenty of surf camps and tranquil beachside yoga retreats where you can sign up for a program during the day while checking out at some hip beachside restaurants and bars at night.

2

Ahungalla Beach

Another spot to include in your Sri Lanka beach holidays is Ahungalla. Lying just 40 km north of Galle, and home to idyllic and pristine stretches of white sandy shores, Ahungalla is a much-loved beachside destination to visit if you are keen on enjoying a quiet tropical retreat san a large crowd. Do keep in mind that while Ahungalla is more peaceful compared to other more prominent beaches along the South coast, the ocean tends to get choppy – which is why it's important to be confident with your swimming.

3

Talalla Beach

Talalla Beach is synonymous with serenity and is a great base to visit neighbouring cities such as Galle from, which tour operators such as Walkers Tours will be happy to arrange upon request. Apart from sunbathing to your heart's content on a quiet shore to napping in a swinging hammock under endless blue skies, beachgoers have the option of dining at some fantastic cafes and restaurants while enjoying a long lazy swim in the delightfully warm waters of the Indian Ocean.

4

Uppuveli Beach

A veritable tropical paradise, Uppuveli located along the Northeast Coast of the island is truly idyllic and offers completely different experiences compared to its more visited and populous southern coast counterparts. Start your day with an early morning whale-watching expedition just off Trincomalee Beach, after which you can make your way to beautiful Pigeon Island via a speed boat, where you can snorkel in gin-clear waters. Apart from the vibrant coral life and colourful reef fish, make it a point to keep an eye out for giant sea turtles - the islet's favourite and gentle marine residents.

5

Pasikuda Beach

If you are travelling with your little ones in tow and would be able to relax better knowing that where they are frolicking is safe, Pasikuda Beach is your best bet thanks to its shallow reef. Pasikuda Beach is a great family beach and offers a selection of top resorts and hotels to choose from for your stay.
