Family-Friendly Things to Do in Phuket – Some surefire ways to get the kids to love Phuket!

Phuket, the largest island in Thailand, is a great place for kids. Apart from the fantastic blue beaches, there are lots of sites you can visit with your kids.

1

The Elephant Retirement Park

Head to the Elephant Retirement Park in Phuket to spend your day in the company of these lovable gentle giants. This sanctuary provides protection and a haven for Thailand's national animals. Elephants are unfortunately terribly mistreated in Thailand, especially in the tourism industry. Visitors to the sanctuary can view these majestic animals and have the opportunity to see them roam and romp in a setting close to their natural environment. Guests can also feed the elephants and see them bathing. Visitors are welcome to provide donations to keep the place running and help to care for aged elephants.

Another location worth visiting is the Sirinat National Park. The sanctuary is home to many animals, like threatened sea turtles. There is a coral reef and mangroves, which are natural habitats for many local birds. A luxury hotel in Phuket won't be too difficult to find; the likes of SAii Laguna Phuket can be a good option for those looking for sound accommodation.

2

A day at Rawai Park

Rawai Park is the latest kids' club on the island and is targeted at young children below 6 years of age. The park includes a playground, a sandbox, a kids' club and a water park. Kids can also roam around and play in the gardens – if anyone gets peckish, there is a family diner on-site. Have a look at their website for more information on opening times and any special events that might be taking place.

3

Visit the Big Buddha

A trip to Phuket won't be complete without visiting the serene marble white figure of the seated Buddha located on top of Nakkerd Hill. The statue is 45 metres in height, with a climb that will leave you with some wonderful memories and scenes of your time in Phuket.

4

Splash Jungle Water Park

Visit Phuket's wildest water theme park for tons of fun and exciting rides. The slides have some unique names like Boomerango and Super Bowl! There is also a Wave Pool, 6-laned Whizzard, 335-metre lazy river, Aqua Play Pool, Aqua Park, Family Raft Ride, and so much more. Check their website for more details!

5

Fantasea

Head to Fantasea, a dazzling complex with a theme park, a ton of restaurants, and shopping. This theme park is ideal for families, where adults and children will have plenty of attractions. Don't fail to see the cultural performances shown almost daily. It is an excellent method to experience and expose children to Thailand's cultural roots.

6

Phuket Old Town

Meander along the colourful Sino-Portuguese byroads replete with charming shophouses and grand estates. Find plenty of little restaurants, bakeries, and cafes, all along the road. This is the best place to spend an early morning or take a mid-afternoon stroll. While there, do a bit of shopping at the local markets near the bus depot, grab something tasty for the kiddos, and explore the small winding streets to discover some deserted mansions and other unique sites along the way!
