7 Hidden Gems of Phuket - Go off the beaten path in Phuket

As Thailand's largest and most famous island, Phuket can get very touristy at times, but fear not, there are still many unknown places on this beautiful island to explore.

1

Layan Beach

Layan Beach is a spotless beach found on the northern extremity of Bangtao Beach and one of the best-kept secrets in Phuket. The gorgeous coastline is fringed with swaying palm trees overlooking panoramic scenes of the ocean. The water is calm as it's near Koh Kala Island.
Go here if you want to escape the chaotic vibe of Phuket's infamous beaches. The shallow waters of Layan are well-suited for kids and ideal for families.

2

Windmill viewpoint

This viewpoint is not a major attraction on the island, and it gets its name from a solitary wind turbine seen far beyond the horizon. The windmill is not an authentic one either, as one would expect to see, but still worth a trip! The landscape provides magnificent sights of the surrounding rolling hills and the seaside below. Meanwhile, if looking for accommodation, the likes of Avani+ Mai Khao Phuket Suites & Villas are among some of the options worth considering while staying in Phuket.

3

Bon Island

Bon Island is a stunning tropical paradise located towards the southern extremity of Phuket.
The rocky island has several remote beaches towards the western end of its perimeter. Nature lovers are in for a treat, and can spend plenty of peaceful moments here in seclusion, surrounded by the breathtaking scenery of sandy white beaches and turquoise waters. Adventure seekers can try snorkelling and diving off the islands!

4

Wat Khao Rang

Wat Khao Rang is a temple found on the hillsides of Khao Rang. The major attraction is the statue of the golden Buddha in a seated position and believed to be the island's first! The temple structure is ornate and colourful, typical of Thai temple designs.
It has a lovely and calming atmosphere; the perfect place for a moment of solitude, or to meditate and take in the stunning vistas overlooking the grassy hillsides.

5

Black Rock viewpoint

Not the easiest of locations on this travel list but a trip to Black Rock will reward those who take the hike with some spectacular sights of southern Phuket. It's a lesser-known viewpoint on the island, and the area is called the 'Black Rock viewpoint' due to a huge slab of granite that functions as a natural terrace, offering travellers a place of respite to take in the natural beauty of the island.

6

Kathu Village

Kathu Village is among the least explored locations in Phuket. The small village is located halfway between Patong Beach and downtown Phuket. There are many ancient sites of worship all over the village for you to visit. Also, it's a great chance to witness some amazing mural art. The locals are charming and welcoming, and there is a popular festival that happens here each year as well!

7

Panwa

Panwa is a viewpoint located on the outlying southeastern hills of Phuket. The site is well-developed, and here, visitors will find quite a few restaurants. In Phuket, this is known as an area that can provide a tranquil break as not many ventures out here. The views, however, are stunning, and you can find a two-storey building to provide you with some shade as you admire the beauty of Phuket.
