5 Hiking Trails in Phuket - Discover the heartland of Phuket!

Phuket is the biggest of the Thai islands and a major draw for tourists. And hiking is a great activity to uncover many known and unknown trails in Phuket.

1

Kathu Waterfall Hike

The hike to the waterfall is perhaps even better than the actual waterfall itself; however, don't let that thought disappoint you. In actuality, it is more like a stream with many rivulets, and several rocky pools, while the mini waterfall springs to life with the monsoon. The trail begins through verdant forests, and along the path, you can encounter plenty of freshwater dipping pools. Don't forget to take a breather and cool off in the heart of nature in the rocky pools! You can find many restaurants in Phuket near this location, so you won't have to worry about finding a place to eat after the hike.

2

Khao Sok National Park

The National Park is perfect for hiking. There are plenty of trails that take you through spectacular sights within the heart of the dense forest. Many species of wild animals and plants live within the park, such as rare Rafflesia Flowers, tigers, and gibbons. It is best to organise a guided hike so an expert can take you along this dense forest. The course of the hike will lead you along a man-made lake, Cheow Lan Lake, with limestone arrangements around it. You can even opt for a guided tour lasting three- or four-day packages to explore all the secret places in the natural park.

3

Banana Rock Beach

The location of the beach is serene and dreamy and a rarely visited site; this is possibly due to its location, as it can be quite a journey to get there! Banana Beach is found between two beaches, Bang Tao, and Nai Thon, and is also called 'Deserted Beach'. Once on the trail, look out for a wooden signpost that will direct you toward the beach. The trek won't be difficult, but finding it can get tough, so ask locals for directions, or you can even enlist the help of a knowledgeable local to get you to this site. The beach is great for swimming, sunning and snorkelling, minus all the chaos you would find on the more popular beaches in Phuket! The likes of Avani+ Mai Khao Phuket Suites & Villas will be a great option if you are looking for a luxurious place to stay close to the beach.

4

Samet Nangshe Viewpoint

The location is outside of downtown Phuket and will require a 30-minute journey to the starting point of the trail. From this viewpoint, the scenery will be mind-blowing, with sights stretching to Phang Nga Bay. You will be treated to spectacular views of limestone islands and the dense mangroves along the bay. The hike will include a twenty-minute climb to reach the summit. Don't forget to catch the sunrise from the viewpoint! It is an experience you won't forget anytime soon.

5

Kata Beach to Big Buddha

Phuket's Big Buddha on Nakkerd hill is a landmark in Phuket, and the hike up to the summit of the Buddha is one of the best on the island. The path starts from the southwest of Kata beach; the trail can get steep, so be on the lookout. But the hike is relatively easy and will be well-marked with signposts, so finding it will be easy. Make sure to dress modestly when making the hike as it's a place of religious significance.
