5 Things I Wish I’d Known Before I Went to Dubai – The more you know, the better

As one of the most developed and visited places on Earth, Dubai has a big reputation to uphold. The stories of massive malls, outrageously extravagant hotels and amazing architecture are just a piece of the puzzle. Here are some things you should know before you make your way to Dubai!

1

You don't need to be loaded

You don't need a million dollars to enjoy the luxury amenities of Dubai, despite the city's reputation as the world's most affluent. It may be hard to believe, but Dubai is a place you can visit and have a good time without breaking the bank.
Simply stay at an accommodation like the Anantara World Islands Dubai Resort during your, hop on the metro, and explore the alleys of Deira to sample cuisines from around the world. If you're looking for some retail therapy in Dubai but don't want to splurge, it is recommended to check out the Deira markets to try your hand at haggling for some bargains.

2

Try your best to dress modestly

While you probably won't get in trouble or be asked to alter your attire, it is polite to show some cultural sensitivity and understanding in order to show that you want to be as respectful as possible. Many other websites and blogs also recommend covering your shoulders, not showing too much skin, and avoiding wearing flashy jewellery as a general rule of thumb. Any attire, though, is fine if you're hanging out in one of the public areas with the plethora of luxury resorts in Dubai.

3

Don't underestimate the heat

Summers in Dubai are blistering, with average highs of 113 degrees Fahrenheit and lows of just 57 per cent humidity. When you visit Dubai, you should do so between the months of November and March, when the city enjoys its best beach weather and clear, blue skies. Jumeirah Beach is Dubai's best beach and is known for its white sand and crystal-clear water, making it a popular destination for tourists during those same months.

4

Yes, there are bars & clubs

On Thursdays and Fridays, Dubai is home to a throng of partygoers, making its clubs and bars among the busiest in the world. There are several nightclubs and bars in the city, however, due to the varying licencing laws in the UAE, you will most probably find them hidden within hotels.
If you plan on visiting a more upscale and private club, it's recommended that you dress to impress, as bouncers are sometimes stationed at the door and only allow the best-dressed patrons inside.

5

Avoid the PDA

A lot of societal norms in Dubai state that couples should not engage in public shows of affection such as kissing or simply holding hands. Since unmarried couples are generally not permitted to stay in a hotel suite together, hotels may even compel them to present a marriage licence. Though these regulations may seem excessive to some, the low crime rates in the United Arab Emirates are a direct result of the country's legal system.
