What to Take on a Business Trip - Must-Pack Items for Your Next Work Trip

While you may not jet set on business trips frequently, it is important to know what items must be packed for a successful business trip overseas. Here's a comprehensive list of items that every corporate traveller must pack.

1

Laptop/Tab

All business travellers must have their laptop or tab on hand not only as a storage device for business files but also to engage in work-related duties on the road. Even if one is not required to bring a computer or tab to a meeting, having your own device on hand will help business travellers take notes, be more efficient, and use specific work-related software on the go without having to install the same on other devices.

2

Chargers and Electronics

From your mobile phone to your laptop computer, every electronic device requires a charger. Make sure that every charger you need is packed securely along with wall plugs (if you are travelling to the US or Europe) so that your devices can be charged anywhere. Make sure the other electronic accessories you pack such as your tab, eReader or similar devices are fully charged before you pack them and carry a Power Bank in case you cannot find a power source until you reach the base hotel.

3

Headphones

Business travellers need peace and quiet to work, prepare documents, reply to emails and engage in all sorts of work-related assignments while on a flight, waiting in a hotel lounge etc. This is where headphones or earbuds come in handy. Apart from avoiding disruptions, they can also be used to listen to podcasts and audiobooks as well.

4

Toiletries

Although most hotels that are booked through business travel agents the likes of Mackinnons Travels are likely to provide the bare necessities in terms of toiletries, it is best to be prepared. A toothbrush, toothpaste, your favourite shampoo, body wash, and moisturiser must be securely packed in a Ziploc bag and tossed into your main luggage.

5

Business cards

Don't forget to carry a few dozen business cards when you are travelling for business purposes as one never knows when a networking opportunity may present itself. Ensure that the information on your card is accurate and up to date while adding a QR code can also be used to market your business website and digital portfolio to potential corporate partners and clients.

6

Medical Kit

It is difficult to guess when medical emergencies may crop up, so pack a few emergency treatments to use on the road or when prescriptions are not on hand to buy medications at your intended destination. Must-haves for your medical kit include antihistamines, vitamins, stomach-settling medications, Band-Aids and antibiotic sprays.

7

Business Attire

Depending on the number of meetings and business lunches or dinners you intend to attend, it is necessary to pack a separate business suit for each occasion. Accessories and footwear that match these outfits must also be packed along with extra socks (for men).

8

Casual Clothes

Throw in a few comfortable casual clothing options to wear on sightseeing excursions or spending any personal time or free time during the trip.
