Best Mouthwatering Dishes at Mui Ne – Behold lovers of food!

Popular destinations located on the Vietnamese coast; Mui Ne is located roughly 200 kilometres from Ho Chi Minh City. Once a traditional fishing village, Mui Ne is quickly gaining popularity and its local dishes are the main contribution.

1

Grilled Lizards

Don't panic when you hear the name because this dish is quite a delicacy! These lizards are known as Dong and are best consumed when they are grilled. It is also widely believed that Dong has medical benefits, as these lizards consume grass and herbal leaves. Dong is said to have a very distinct flavour and is first boiled and then wrapped in banana leaves before it is cooked – this is done to ensure the lizard stays juicy! It's also said the lizards are used to cure aching bones, in traditional medicine, and people are said to hunt for Dong on the fifth day of the fifth lunar month.

2

Mai Fish Salad

This dish is also commonly known as Ca Mai and is easily found in many Mui Ne restaurants offered by properties such as Anantara Mui Ne Resort. This salad has thinly sliced fresh fish all over it, along with cucumbers, carrots, basil, and roasted peanuts, which gives it an extra kick! This salad is best enjoyed with accompanying sauces such as Phan Thiet sauce. The combination of all these ingredients makes it extra healthy!

3

Lau Thai

Lau Thai is a popular dish and is simply a seafood hot pot! Since you'll be surrounded by the coast, it only makes sense to eat plenty of seafood. This dish consists of vegetables, pork, shrimp, fish, rice paper cake, fried eggs, rice noodles and much more. All these ingredients come together to give a unique taste and feel to the entire dish! Presented in a pretty way, you can have the ingredients like a soup or just dry.

4

Sweet Snail

Snails are said to be one of the tastiest seafood, although rather uncanny! This dish is said to be rather difficult to find and buy, so it is a must-try! The yellow shell coupled with brown spots make the snails stand out, and it's said to be named 'sweet snail', due to the scent it emits. The snails are used in many dishes, such as steamed with ginger and onions, baked, and even roasted! The best way to know if the snails are ready to be eaten is when it releases a sweet smell!

5

Quai Vac Cake

For as long as people remember, Quai vac cake has been a popular dish. The locals use translucent wheat flour dough, which is first boiled and wrapped around the meat of choice, usually prawns or pork together with salt, sugar, and fish sauce. This delicacy is presented usually with pepper, lemon juice and garlic along with a couple of slices of lemon. The tough exterior of the cake, together with the juicy and meaty insides, makes a unique combination. Furthermore, the combination of sweet and sour makes it a much-loved dish!
