Top 5 Places to Visit In Mauritius – An idyllic destination with much to offer!

There is no doubt that Mauritius has garnered a solid reputation for being one of the most idyllic honeymoon destinations in the world. However, there is so much to see and do whether you are travelling on a solo trip, honeymoon or just a big old family vacation. Here are the top five places to visit during your time there.

1

Black river gorges national park

The biggest and most beautiful national park in Mauritius, Black River Gorges NP is located on the southwest side of the island. With beautiful rolling hills and lush green rainforests, the park is home to over 300 species of flora and fauna including monkeys, deer and giant fruit bats and various types of birds. The park can be accessed via several entry points and offers adventurous tourists over 60 km of hiking trails to explore. Some key highlights of this attraction include Gorges Viewpoint, Macchabee Viewpoint and Alexandra Falls. Most resorts in Mauritius such as Anantara Iko Mauritius will be happy to arrange for a guided hike upon the request of guests.

2

Le Morne Brabant

A UNESCO World Heritage Site, Le Morne Brabant is a majestic mountain standing 550 meters high in the southwest end of this beautiful country. The mountain has a rich history and was once used as a shelter by runaway slaves. While one can definitely enjoy the vistas of La Morne from afar while relaxing on a beautiful beach, there is nothing like exploring it in person. Here too a guided hike is recommended as it will offer you the chance to learn about Le Morne's place in Mauritian history as well as about its plant and animal life.

3

Tamarind Falls

Among key attractions in Mauritius, that one should not miss out on is Tamarin Falls! A series of cascading falls, this must-see spot too is located in the southwest of Mauritius, not too far from the Black River Gorges National Park. Hiking trails can be challenging here, so make sure to cool off in the refreshing waters of deeper ponds found there in abundance. The area can be a bit confusing and there are several dangerous parts that tourists should stay clear of, so visiting Tamarin Falls with a knowledgeable local guide is highly recommended. There are various tours available to choose from, ranging from a couple of hours to ones that go deeper into the canyon, which usually take most of the day.

4

Boating to IIe aux Cerfs

No trip to Mauritius is complete without taking the time to enjoy a spot of island hopping. Consider opting for either a full-day catamaran excursion or speedboat tour to take in the paradise-like island of IIe Aux Cerfs. Here visitors can take in stunning tropical vistas, snorkel in gin clear waters, sunbathe on white sandy shores and feat a delicious BBQ lunch either on board the catamaran or on the beach itself.

5

L' Aventure du Sucre

Located in the sprawling Beau Plan Sugar Estate, the L' Aventure du Sucre is a great place to learn about the history, culture and people of Mauritius. An events centre, this attraction, houses a gift shop, a restaurant and a museum well worth exploring.
