Travel Advice for visitors to Oman – Being aware is key when visiting a foreign nation!

The Sultanate of Oman is on the southeastern coast of the Arabian Peninsula sharing borders with Saudi Arabia, Yemen and the United Arab Emirates. It is a safe and stable land for tourists to enjoy their holiday. Make the most of it by understanding the unique culture, customs and laws of Oman.

1

COVID 19 Preventive measures and restrictions

Be mindful that the preventive measures and restrictions are subject to change at short notice and always follow the Health and Travel Advice for COVID-19 issued by local Oman authority on the website, Coronavirus Disease (COVID 19)- Ministry of Health (moh.gov.om). At present, a negative PCR test report for COVID-19 is not required for fully vaccinated adults aged 18 years or older. Please refer to the Ministry of Health, Oman website close to your departure.

2

Understand local customs

Omanis are well known for their warm and generous hospitality and friendly manner. They are also loyal to the local customs and etiquette and value the same consideration from their visitors. Being an Islamic nation Omanis value dressing conservatively which must be well noted and respected by visitors. In the same manner unruly behaviour, gestures and even noise are not welcome in public places.

3

Public transport and Taxi Services

To get between main cities Public Bus Services are available, however, to see places of interest as planned by you joining a tour or using a hired service is ideal. Taxis are safe and widely available around Oman. Ensure the driver rides on the metre or you agree on the charge for the trip (oneway or both ways) in advance as often done by visitors using Oman resorts.

4

Using alcoholic beverages

Whilst it is permitted for tourists and visitors to purchase and enjoy alcoholic beverages at venues which are licensed to do so, such as Al Baleed Resort Salalah by Anantara and at other hotels, restaurants and clubs it must be noted that the legal age for drinking alcohol is 21 years. Underage drinking and drinking in unauthorised public places is considered an offence in Oman.

5

Demonstrations in Oman

These may occur and are usually peaceful with no harm being done to visitors. However, it is always wise to check in advance if demonstrations are happening and avoid visiting or passing through such areas. This information is easily obtained from your hotel which will check with local authorities and provide advice. You can also follow these through local media information sites.

6

Self-Driving in Oman

With a good highway network in place around the main cities, road conditions are good for self-driving. When you need to drive out of city limits exercise care and caution. Weak visibility due to poor lighting, and roaming animals are a concern at nightfall. Another factor to remember is heavy rainfalls and flooding of roads. Connectivity of mobile devices in rural areas can be low hence ensure a friend or your hotel is informed of your movements when you do distant trips on your own.
