How to Plan a Stress-Free Trip to Zambia – A guide for adventure seekers

A landlocked country in southern Africa, Zambia is known for attractions like Victoria Falls, aptly called Smoke That Thunder. Safari tours, expanses of uncharted wilderness, wild animals, waterfalls, and the subtropical climate are some of the things that make Zambia a great tourist destination. If you’ve decided to visit Zambia and don’t know how to plan the trip, this mini guide will help you get started.

1

Getting there

You need to think about how to get here. To start your tour, you first need to get to the capital of the country, Lusaka; this will be the first and the last point of your tour. You have an array of international flights connecting Zambia with major other destinations in the world. Book your flight the moment you decide to visit Zambia – if you are visiting during the high season, the price will be high, and you would also need to book your flight as soon as possible. The low season, of course, sees low flight costs, so you have nothing to worry about, but you should, however, book your flight as soon as possible.

2

Internal flights

The only domestic airline in the country, Proflight Zambia, can take you to every major safari destination. Keep in mind Lusaka is the arrival and departure point, so at the end of every tour, you’ll fly back to Lusaka and take another flight on to your next destination. However, Proflight Zambia now offers flights going to Lower Zambezi and South Luangwa, so you might not have to get to the capital every time. Even if you do, the process is simple, and you won’t have to wait a long time. If you don’t want to go through all this hassle, you can charter your flight. Don’t worry; it’s easier and less expensive than it sounds.

3

How long should I stay?

This is one of the most common questions tourists visiting Zambia ask. The duration of your tour comes down to the kind of activities you want to do and, of course, your budget. If you want to do a safari tour, the longer you stay, the better. Couples and honeymooners should consider staying here for at least a week or two. And if you are here on business, the duration should be determined by your business activities.

4

Accommodation

You can find a wide array of accommodation choices here. The country’s accommodation sector caters for both leisure travellers and business travellers. Business travellers visiting Zambia can rest assured that the conference venues in Zambia make up an extensive list. Leisure travellers can take their pick from a diverse collection of accommodation options, including budget, mid-range, and luxury options. Further, wedding planners and honeymooners will be relieved that they have the likes of Avani Victoria Falls Resort at their disposal.

5

Seasons

The thing about Zambia is that the country offers something for you to see every month, so you can visit pretty much any time you want. That being said, there’s a separate safari season, which runs from June to October. During the safari season, all the attractions are in their best states, and every bush camp is open. It’s a lovely time for big game viewing and walking tours. To see Victoria Falls in its full splendour, however, you should choose the season of January to June. Conversely, February to March is the best time for boating safaris.

6

Family holidays

Zambia isn’t synonymous with family holidays, but you shouldn’t rule out this amazing destination for your family vacation. Over the past few years, there has been a lot of development in the accommodation sector, giving rise to a wide variety of family-friendly accommodation options. There might not be any attractions meant only for kids, but your kids can join in on most activities, but keep in mind that kids below the age of twelve cannot go on safari tours.
