September is finally here and with it comes changing weather and a brand new college semester in Utah. Hopefully you have had a relaxing summer with plenty of vacation and adventure because life is about to come at you at full speed. In these times of struggle it is important to remember the people who will be cheering for you at the finish line when you finally receive that degree from a credited university or college.
Never forget the woman who brought you into this world. She was your best friend when you came home from preschool, and although you may not want to admit it, is still your best friend today. Stop ignoring her calls because you are “too busy with Utah college courses”. You are never too busy for a quick chat with the woman who gave you life. Call her.
The man taught you how to throw a ball. Boys: He taught you how to be a man and how to treat girls. Girls: He taught you how a man should treat you. Your father is the one you ran to when your mother kept saying no. He is always great for the blunt pep talks and corny jokes that do not always make perfect sense. Just in case you have trouble picking him out in the crowd at your Utah college graduation, he is the one smiling like and idiot trying to fight back the tears rolling down his cheek.
Whether you met him/her during your freshman year of college or on the first day of Kindergarten, your best friend will always be there to cheer on your accomplishments or cry with you over your failures. He/she is the first person you go to when you can’t go to your parents. You know each other’s crushes, first kisses, and first loves. You always love each other, even when you hate each other. He/she will be there for you to cheer you on when you graduate, and hopefully you will be there for them to cheer on their accomplishments.
Parents going back to school in Utah, whether your child has two legs or four, they love you and support you as much as you do them. You are making sacrifices to improve your life and they know it. They are always there waiting for you when you get home ready to shower you with kisses and tantrums. They are the loves of your life, your escape from loneliness, and you would be nowhere without them. Hug them.
