According to Ford inside sources reporting to Edmunds.com, The 2015 Mustang is set to lose at least 400lbs off the current body weight, but that's not all. Up until now, we have only been able to speculate about the next generation S550 Mustang being a smaller, more nimble vehicle.

The 2015 Ford Mustang is on track for an auto show debut within the next six months and already many of its details are becoming known. Today, we learned that engineers developing the car have targeted a substantial weight saving for the new model. A source familiar with the car’s development...
While previous 2015 Ford Mustang prototypes have been spied testing on the streets of Dearborn, it looks like the engineering team has headed south for the summer to do hot weather testing in Arizona. Several Mustang prototypes were recently caught driving around in the city of Flagstaff, and it looks (and sounds) like one of them may be powered by the EcoBoost four-cylinder engine.
Back in November a Ford social media representative on TheMustangSource.com forums posted that Ford would produce a limited number of 2014 ½ Mustangs to celebrate the car's 50th anniversary. "The 2014 ½ will be the 50th Anniversary edition," the representative stated. "It will be added to production for a limited run sometime during the year."
Perhaps no other future car has been rendered as many times as the 2015 Mustang (one example shown above). Some are received with praise, others with hatred, and many times it's a combination of both. In reality it doesn't matter, though as the drawings are mere speculation and don't represent the real thing.
Last week we showed you the very first video of a 2015 Ford Mustang prototype cruising the streets of Dearborn, and while the footage meant that we're that much closer to seeing the real thing, the heavy camouflage on nearly every inch of the car meant that not much was revealed in terms of styling and design.
Car and Driver is the latest to guess what the upcoming 2015 Ford Mustang will look like with a fresh rendering courtesy of artist Jon Sibal. The design sets itself apart from previous ones we've seen, not using too much styling from either the Evos Concept or the current S197 Mustang.
We've seen plenty of renderings of the 2015 Ford Mustang over the past few months, ranging from some that look almost exactly like the Ford Evos Concept to some that aren't too different from the styling of the current Mustang.
Last week we reported that the upcoming four-cylinder engine option in the 2015 Ford Mustang might not be available in the United States, at least according to an article by Edmunds.com. Instead, the 2.3-liter turbocharged engine would only be available in foreign markets like Europe where gas prices and taxes dictate the need for smaller, more fuel efficient powertrains.
The next generation 2015 Mustang will be called the S550 platform by Ford, MustangsDaily.com has learned from an anonymous inside source. The last several updates to the current generation Mustang - 2010, 2011 and 2013 - while significant in terms of both powertrain and design changes, have all been within the current platform, the S197.
The rumors of an EcoBoost four-cylinder coming to the 2015 Ford Mustang have been all but confirmed, but the technical specifications of the engine including displacement and horsepower and torque outputs are still up for debate.
Yesterday Ford officially announced that the Mustang would soon be coming to Europe as part of the company's renewed efforts for a global lineup of vehicles. Both Alan Mulally, Ford's president and CEO, as well as Stephen Odell, vice president and CEO of Ford Europe, gave no details on specifics, though, including when the Mustang would go on sale, how much it would cost and what engine options would be made available.
In their continuing quest for a global lineup of vehicles, Ford announced today that the Mustang is officially coming to the European market. The news doesn't come as a surprise, as it has long been rumored that the next generation 2015 Mustang will be built on a global platform and marketed internationally with a new futuristic design, a new independent rear suspension and the option for a four-cylinder engine.
With the introduction of the 2015 Ford Mustang looming, many have tried to put pen to paper and imagine what Ford's next generation pony car will look like. Early renderings were mere speculation than anything, but later drawings infused design cues from the futuristic Ford Evos Concept after it was reported that the next generation Mustang will lose much of its retro look.
With reports indicating that the 2015 Mustang will be available with Ford's 2.3-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder engine as an option it was unclear how the current 3.7L V6 would fit into the lineup.
With the debut of the 2015 Ford Mustang coming in the next couple years it was only a matter of time before Ford would begin testing out prototypes. It looks like that time as come, as spy photographers have captured a 2015 Mustang prototype being tested out on public roads.
The speculation regarding the design of the 2015 Ford Mustang continues with AutoGuide.com the latest to publish a rendering of what they think the styling of the next generation Mustang will be. Like the renderings posted by InsideLine.com earlier this month, the new speculative design includes styling cues from the Ford Evos Concept unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show last year.
Rumors continue to abound regarding the upcoming 2015 Ford Mustang, the latest being that the Blue Oval's next generation pony car will rely heavily on design cues from the Evos Concept that debuted at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September of last year.
