Offering visitors an in-depth look at the island's tumultuous and illustrious past, the National Museum of Sri Lanka is found in Colombo. Housed in a resplendent former colonial mansion, the venue exhibits the largest collection of artefacts in the country within its confines. Accessible for a nominal fee, some of the top highlights of a visit to the museum are gazing upon the ancient throne of Sinhala kings. The weaponry and the jewelled clothing and accessories of the last king and queen of Sri Lanka are also on show here alongside hundreds of Buddha sculptures excavated from all corners of the paradise isle.
