A Vision of K-12 Students Today

This video provides teacher with inspiration to get students out of their seats in the classroom. It makes me want to incorporate more opportunities for students to create using technology.

Being literate means more than just reading and writing. My favorite point from this video is that “Understanding Tools of the 21st Century is key in reaching students in today’s classroom.”

Rethinking Learning

The learning outside of school matters tremendously for the learning in school. This video discusses the importance of linking the home environment, peer environment, and the community together with learning that happens in schools. Mimi Ito, a lead researcher for The Digital Youth Project, poses a great question in this video. She asks “How can we be more active about linking those environments together?”

21st Century Skills: What Do We Do?

This video tells us how our educational system was built for the Industrial Revolution but we are now living in a Digital Revolution. It also tells us how are students need to be masters with content not masters of content. They need to be masters of collaborating, presenting, researching, and problem solving.

Children in this video express their desire to use technology to make learning more relevant to them. Many children use blogs, wikis, podcasts , and other educational websites on a daily basis. Why not join the students and help teach them ways to use technology to think and create?

This video explains why 21st Century Learning matters. The era in which mastering Reading, Writing, and Arithmetic was enough to take you far in life is over. Students need to develop essential skills such as thinking, problem solving, synthesizing, and designing to be successful in the future.
