As one of the Middle East's most dynamic cities, Doha is the venue of choice for many international and regional festivals and events. From colourful kite festivals to more traditional red-letter days, here are some of the most exciting festivities taking place in the capital of Qatar each year.

1

Aspire International Kite Festival

Taking place at Doha's expansive Aspire Park, this one-of-a-kind kite festival takes place in the month of May each year. Attracting kite flyers and families from around the country and the region, the skies above this public park become a colourful spectacle annually as hundreds of kites take to the clouds. Kite enthusiasts from around the world are known to flock to this three-day event where one can also take part in contests, parades, and also witness cultural showcases. Kite-making workshops are also conducted daily for those who wish to perfect their skills.

2

Qatar International Art Festival

Those with a passion for art will find that timing their visit to coincide with the Qatar International Art Festival is a must as it is one of the top art events on Qatar's calendar. Taking place towards the end of October or during the first week of November, the 6-day event allows local and international artists the chance to showcase their work and exchange ideas and creative inspiration with others in their field. At least two hundred artists hailing from various corners of the earth fly to Doha for this festival, which is usually held at Katara Cultural Village. The exhibitions and live paintings are accessible to visitors free of charge.

3

Ajyal Film Festival

Film fans based at Souq Al Wakra Hotel Qatar by Tivoli or any other hotel in the city will also want to check out the week-long Ajyal Film Festival. Often regarded as one of the best ways to catch movies for free during a trip to Doha, some of the best Doha Event Venues and cinemas are used to host panel discussions and movie screenings attended by actors, directors, producers and other film industry icons. Cosplayers are also a regular feature at the Ajyal Film Festival, which typically takes place towards the end of the year or in November.

4

Katara Traditional Dhow Festival

Travellers with an interest in Qatar's seafaring and pearl diving history or sailing vessels, in general, will want to attend the Katara Traditional Dhow Festival. Taking centre stage in the month of December with the participation of more than 70 boats, the main highlight for visitors is the countless traditional seafaring dhows on show at this annual event. The conventional marketplace set up on-site is another draw for travellers as it is a great place to buy souvenirs and handicrafts for affordable rates.

Eid al-Fitr

As a sacred festival steeped in the country's Islamic heritage, Eid al-Fitr brings to an end the month-long Ramadan fasting season with feasts all across Qatar and its capital city Doha. Local hotels and restaurants also get in on the action during this auspicious time of year by offering seasonal delicacies and meals that are only served during this time of year in Arab homes.
