Top Rules for Drinking Coffee Wherever You Go – Coffee etiquette to remember

In the world of coffee, there are several unwritten rules for consuming coffee and much more. Here are some coffee etiquette tips to keep in mind before you head to a coffee shop or even work in one!

1

Coffee serving (at a bar)

When serving coffee at a bar, such as Nomad Day Bar or any other café in Dubai, remember the cup should sit on the corner with a teaspoon, on the right side of the customer. You need to make sure the handle faces the individual and the cup is placed on an angle (such as a 40-degree angle) to make the coffee easier to reach/ pick up. If the customer requests milk, the fresh milk should be poured into a tiny jug and placed on the counter. If you're also serving snacks to accompany the coffee, such as biscuits, place them on the left side of the customer.

2

Serving coffee at home

There are tiny similarities between serving coffee at home and outside. For instance, the cup must be resting on its saucer. The best way to serve coffee at home would be to use a serving tray, empty cups, teaspoons and the star of the day, a coffee spot! Just in case, an accompanying jug of milk would be a great option too. Remember to keep the tray on the table throughout the time the guests are enjoying their coffee, so that they have somewhere to keep the empty mugs again.

3

Coffee secrets

If you own a coffee machine, it is important that you always adjust the amount of powder that you put inside the coffee machine. If you're making an espresso, the perfect dose would be 7 grams. You need to also pay extra attention to which setting is on the machine, this is necessary to make coffee with an excellent taste. You know you've done it right when the coffee drips out of the machine slowly, like honey and every cup has the same-coloured coffee. You also need to keep in mind that 'coffe cream' is something a lot of coffee lovers look forward to! This takes some practice but once mastered, you've nothing to worry about.

4

Sugaring your coffee

There are rules on how to sugar your coffee correctly. The first rule is in the way you stir it, and this must be done by moving the spoon from top to bottom instead of around the cup. This is done so that the foam on top will not deflate. After using the spoon, keep it back to where you got it from.

5

Picking up your coffee

In a public setting, you need to place the saucer on your palm and pick up the cup with your right hand. This habit isn't something you'll see often, but there is no harm in practising it, as that's the only way it will become a habit.
