Attractions in Siem Reap - Don’t miss out!

As the second-largest city in Cambodia, Siem Reap has a lot to offer to all its visitors! From grand temples to stunning landscapes, here are some attractions to not miss out on.

1

Angkor Wat

When someone says Cambodia is home to some of the most majestic ancient temples, don't doubt them for even a second! Angkor Wat is truly proof of that statement. Built between the 9th and 15th centuries by several Kings, this complex is based within Angkor Archaeological Park. Within the complex, you'll come across a vast array of temples, each one unique and different from the other. Angkor Wat is the main temple within the complex, adorned with bas relief carvings of traditional Hindu epics. After you explore Angkor Wat, you must make your way to Angkor Thom, which is a whopping 10 square kilometre complex and Bayon Temple. If you have more time on your hands and want to capture photogenic pictures, heading towards Ta Prohm is also a great idea, with its crumbled buildings, entwined in nature and roots.

2

Landmine Museum

Although not necessarily a fun attraction, the landmine museum holds a lot of history on Cambodia's long years of a brutal war. There are still thought to be over a million landmines to this day. 25 kilometres away from Siem Reap, the Landmine Museum provides its visitors with plenty of insightful information on the ongoing mine misfortunes around the country. Even today, up to 15 people are injured on average by the landmines each month.

3

Angkor National Museum

Close to many a luxury hotel in Siem Reap, the likes of Anantara Angkor Resort, you'll come across the Angkor National Museum. For lovers of history and tourists that enjoy learning about a country's past, this modern museum does a great job of unpicking the history of the region. You can learn all about the different eras of the Angkorian period and the succession of kings to rule the land. Don't miss out on the entry gallery, which boasts over 1000 images of Lord Buddha over the years. There are also audiovisual presentations, collections of Khmer treasures, information boards and much more.

4

Banteay Srey Butterfly centre

Home to over thousands of butterfly species and the largest butterfly enclosure in Southeast Asia, a visit to Banteay Srey is one of a kind! Especially if you're in Cambodia with little children, it's an interesting look at a different and nature-inclined view of Cambodia. Along with the plethora of a stunning mix of coloured butterflies, you also get to witness first-hand the life cycle of a butterfly.

Circus Show

Another must-see attraction in Cambodia is the circus show, which is a truly dazzling spectacle which is a combination of dance, music, performance arts and acrobatics. This circus is similar to Cirque du Soleil in Canada, in terms of contemporary style. A story is weaved into the performance and is a beautiful combination of comedy and drama.
