How to Plan a Perfect Trip to Thailand - The land of smiles

Thailand is an incredible place and it is no surprise that it is among the top travel destinations in the world. With their unique culture, history, spirituality, and attractions, Thailand is on many people’s travel lists. So here is a simple checklist to have that amazing trip to the ‘Land of Smiles’.

1

Know your visa requirements

Thailand offers visa-free arrival for tourism purposes for 30 days for passport holders of certain countries such as the US, UK, Australia and many others. Visas may be required for countries that do not fall under that category. Extensions can be obtained for a period of another 30 days at the Immigration Office in Bangkok.

2

Decide the best time to visit

Thailand is accessible any time of the year. The average temperatures usually linger around 30 °C for the better part of the year. Thus, it can get hot and humid, with lots of sweating. If you find it uncomfortable, try the rainy seasons between November and April. Between March and September is great for budget travellers, as it’s the rainy season; prices of accommodation and food will be much less.

3

What to pack

Due to the country’s warm weather and plenty of light, loose cotton clothes will be perfect. Pack a few long sarongs, dresses, or skirts as you will need to cover up when visiting temples. Don’t forget an extra swimsuit, a good pair of trekking shoes, and some comfortable sandals. Sunglasses and sun hats will also be crucial as well as plenty of mosquito repellent.

Some options for the itinerary

Bangkok

Conduct your research carefully before drawing up a travel plan to Thailand as there are many places worth visiting here. You will ideally want to spend a few days in Bangkok; the city has a love or hate effect on most visitors; but it is an experience, nonetheless.

At Rattanakosin Island, you can encounter the King's extensive Grand Palace and Wat Pho, the dwelling place of the largest reclining Buddha image in Thailand. Wat Arun, the Temple of Dawn, is particularly worth visiting at first light!

You can also discover shopping, restaurants, and markets like Pak Khlong Talat Flower Market and Taling Chan Weekend Floating Market.

Phuket

Phuket has become the base for those scouring the west coast and the beach resorts. Islands such as Phi Phi became so famous that it saw to their ruination, compelling the government to temporarily close them down for tourism. However, you can find a string of adjacent islands that are just as stunning while delivering a more tranquil experience. Don’t miss Phang Nga Bay, whose serene waters are ideal for sea kayaking.

5

The east coast

This region has an equal combination of party islands, like Koh Samui, Koh Phangan, and the relatively unspoilt Koh Tao. You can find top resorts in Khao Lak, such as the likes of Avani+ Khao Lak Resort as well.

6

Northern Thailand

Northern Thailand offers many contrasts, from jungle treks and picturesque waterfalls to elephant sanctuaries, quaint temples, and visits to hill tribes like the Akha, Lisu, Karen, and Hmong. The town of Chiang Mai is a good base for exploring the northern region.

7

Money matters

The Thai Bhat is the currency in use and can be drawn from ATMs across the country, from your standard MasterCard or Visa. Most hotels, restaurants and malls will accept card payments. Make sure to have enough change on hand when visiting food stalls and markets.

8

Accommodation

When it comes to accommodation, you will find every possible option available, thus making Thailand a perfect travel destination for every budget. Homestays and hostels are great means of saving cash for those backpacking around the country.
