Named after the Sottish Tea Baron Sir Thomas Lipton, as he used this viewpoint to enjoy his lush tea carpets, at present this hike is considered one of the best things to do in Sri Lanka and is also enjoyed by hikers. Located in Haputale towards the centre of the island at an elevation of 1431 metres above sea level, this scenic hike must be coupled with a tour of the Dambatenne Tea Factory on the estate founded by Sir Thomas in 1890. Take the footpath from the factory winding through tea bushes, you are greeted with engaging grins of deft tea pluckers as you gradually climb to the viewpoint providing you with a spectacular view stretching for miles.

A rock fortress steeped in history, this palace of King Kashyapa is worth the trek to marvel at the majestic Lion's Paws, the only surviving part of the Lion Statue at the entrance to the stairway, the well-preserved examples of ancient urban planning still visible which makes this a UNESCO World Heritage site. This trek at Horton's Plains National Park close to Nuwara Eliya city provides you with a duo of great attractions on the island. Reaching the sheer cliff, the World's End with a dizzying drop of 1200 metres, greets you with an expansive view of the lush landscape of the surrounding area. On the way stop by and be enthralled by the beauty of Baker's Falls, which at 20 metres in height is a fascinating array of shimmering curtains of water enticing one to capture its enchanting images.
This is a short hike which makes you encounter the locals in the village and experience the village vibes. Starting from Ella village the walk takes you on the tracks of the train for about 3 metres then through a small village to the rock at 1041 metres above sea level, going with a guide is recommended although locals around are friendly and helpful. This is a trek done by Buddhist Devotees at least once a year as it is believed the Lord Buddha had visited this holy peak. However many other locals and visitors trek this mountain surrounded by forested hills from December to April. Most parts of the hike up to the base of the summit are consisting of steps illuminated with power facilitating night climbing as this is favoured by many. Some do early morning hikes to capture the glorious view of the rising sun and enjoy the view from the top.
