Ella is a top spot for day hiking and trekking and is well known for two particular treks that lead up to Ella Rock and Little Adam's Peak. Other popular hiking spots include famous waterfalls in the area including the magnificent Ravana Falls. The Demodara Nine Arch Bridge has fast become synonymous with Ella's popularity with visitors. The grand and impressive bridge spans over 91 meters and stands at a mammoth height of 25 meters. A definite must-visit, one can easily reach the bridge from the town via a tuk-tuk, the favoured mode of transport among visiting travellers and locals alike. Every tuk-tuk driver will know how to get to this extremely Instagrammable spot with little to no hassle. Upon reaching one can take in the stunning views of lush tea plantations and capture some great photos along the train tracks.
Paying a visit to the Diyaluma Falls is another great activity to do when visiting Ella. The second highest waterfall on the island, Diyaluma Falls offers three beautiful natural infinity pools that stretch out onto the cliff edge. At the very base, one can take in the roaring and powerful gush of waters splashing onto the rocks below. The hike while exciting will prove to be tiring especially during mid-mornings and late afternoons, do make it a point to cool off with a relaxing dip in any one of the three pools while enjoying mesmerising views around you. The waterfall is located an hour from the Ella town and is best reached via tuk-tuk. If you are an adrenaline seeker, then a spot of zip lining is definitely for you. Consider making your way to the Flying Ravana zip line, located just 10 minutes out of Ella Town. The perfect activity to enjoy during an afternoon, the fun zip line spans over half a kilometre, sits 82 meters high and boasts of dizzying speeds of up to 80km. The Flying Ravana is open to the public from 9 am to 5 pm every day and tickets will be approximately from 18 – 20 USD.
Charming and quaint, the township of Ella is one of the most picturesque settings to explore on the island.
