Explore Kuang Si Waterfalls

How about a day trip to Laos' most beautiful natural landmarks? This waterfall is the biggest in the city and has three tiers that cascade into natural pools. The best way to arrive at this destination is by boat. The boat ride takes you down the Mekong River from where you will have to hop into another boat which will take you to the falls. It is advisable to start early on the day, to make the best out of this venture. A tip to remember. Many travellers are unaware that they can hike up behind the falls and explore the wading pools There are also caves at the top which you can explore. If you are not equipped, do not worry. There are locals who are willing to rent you a hard hat, and flashlight and even guide you for a minimal fee.

The Night Market

The night market is open every day from 5 O'clock in the evening until 11 o'clock at the night. This is the best place to scour around for souvenirs like traditional handmade crafts, and jewellery. The streets are filled with local vendors and people making it a great opportunity to mingle with them. Golden City Temple

This is one of the most important and ancient temples in the city. It was built in 1560 and to date, is known for its impeccable and fascinating architecture. The temple is decorated with intricate mosaics and beautiful paintings, that everyone must witness. The entry fee is less than US$ 2. Since it is a temple, please be respectful and ensure you are dressed appropriately.

Witness the Sunset or Sunrise at Mount Pousi

Mount Pousi, at 100 metres above the old town, happens to be the highest point in Luang Prabang, thus making it the best location to view the panoramic town stretched below. You can see the rivers the Mekong and Nam Khan the view is definitely worth the 350 steps climb and watching the sun at the horizon will be a view forever etched in your mind.

Alms giving ceremony

The predominant religion of Laos is Buddhism. One of the most iconic scenes is just before dawn, the saffron-robed monks, set out barefoot through the city collecting food donations from the village people. The procession begins in the main streets of the city and disperses towards the other streets. It portrays a significant aspect of their culture. Everyone, including tourists, is encouraged to participate in the donations. Ensure that if you are participating, your shoulders, legs and chest are covered.
