7 Must-know Tips for Exploring Bangkok’s Grand Palace – A walk through history

If you're planning a trip to Bangkok, Thailand, you have to include the incredible Grand Palace. This majestic place has a lot of things to offer, and here are a few tips and tricks to ensure you make the best of your time there!

1

It can get quite warm!

The heat in Thailand is no joke, and the bustling city of Bangkok doesn't make it any better! Inside the Palace grounds, it gets even warmer because there are numerous people walking around in groups, and there simply isn't a way for the breeze to get through! In order to remain cool, drink a lot of water before you enter and throughout your time at the palace. A few things to pack in your bag before heading out of Chatrium Residence Sathon Bangkok, or any other hotel in Bangkok, Sathorn, would be a hat, sunscreen, and sunglasses. If you're someone who cannot bear high temperatures, even purchasing re-chargeable or battery-powered portable fans would be worth it, or an umbrella if you're unable to find these.

2

A dress code

As the Grand Palace is a sacred place, there's a dress code you need to adhere to. It is best to avoid short sleeves and short skirts, as you will have to cover your shoulders and knees! Since there are a lot of temples in Thailand that you will probably visit, it's best to carry with you a long skirt just to make life easier as you do not want to be turned away simply because of your outfit.

3

The best time to visit

Do keep in mind that a lot of people flock to visit the Grand Palace; therefore, to ensure you experience a stress-free time, it is best to go in the morning hours. In fact, the Palace is open from 8.30 am to 3.30 pm every day. So to get your pictures and enjoy the location in all its glory, wake up a little earlier than normal and head to the Palace! You may need to pay an entrance fee, so check on that before you start packing.

4

The Emerald Buddha

You'll find the glorious Temple of the Emerald Buddha, also known as Wat Phra Kaew within the Palace. This Buddha is around 2000 years old and sits gracefully inside the temple. There is a long and interesting story attached to the status, such as the fact that it was lost for a while and discovered only when a bolt of lightning hit a small structure that contained artefacts.

5

Bag Search

If you carry a bag with you, the security at the entrance will search your bag. This is for security purposes only, and you do not have to worry if you aren't carrying anything unnecessary!

6

No King lives there

The Grand Palace served as the residence of the Royal Family only until 1925. Today, the Palace is used for various important functions as it is rarely closed. You'll find yourself mesmerised by the art and grandeur of it all!
